Vecna, The Whispered One (VEK-nuh)
Vecna, the Whispered One, is an enigmatic and malevolent deity worshiped by the Cult of Vecna. Often depicted as a withered and one-eyed figure, he exudes an aura of dark knowledge and hidden power. His remaining eye is said to hold the wisdom of ages, and his bony hand is the key to unlocking forbidden secrets.
As the god of secrets, undeath, and forbidden knowledge, Vecna embodies the insatiable thirst for power and the pursuit of hidden truths. He is known to have once been a mortal, who through treacherous acts and immense knowledge, achieved godhood, becoming an entity of immense darkness and malevolence.
Vecna's followers revere him as the keeper of forbidden knowledge and the master of secrets. They believe that by delving into the darker aspects of the world and embracing necromantic arts, they can gain favor with their dark lord and gain great power in return.
Despite his malevolent nature, Vecna's influence spreads far and wide, even beyond the cult that worships him. His followers are often shadowy figures, lurking in the shadows, plotting and scheming to gain more knowledge and spread the influence of their dark lord.
Vecna's realm in the afterlife is shrouded in mystery, much like the god himself. It is said to be a realm of secrets and lies, where the souls of those who seek forbidden knowledge are doomed to wander for eternity.
In the eyes of the Cult of Vecna, he is a god worthy of reverence and fear, as his power knows no bounds, and his pursuit of knowledge is relentless. Those who dare to delve into the dark arts and secrets of the world are drawn to his cult, seeking to gain favor with the Whispered One and unlock the secrets of the universe. But beware, for Vecna's gifts come at a steep price, and once ensnared in his web of darkness, escape is near impossible.
Divine Domains
Cavitius is a domain in the Burning Peaks cluster, once ruled by the demigod Vecna, named after his old citadel on the Quasi-Elemental Plane of Ash. Most of the domain is a desert which saps the life force of anyone who sets foot in it. The only settlement in the domain is Citadel Cavitius, where undead are leading citizens and the living have no rights.
Cavitius is constantly at war with Kas the Destroyer's domain of Tovag, but neither side ever gains an advantage. Cavitius may have survived after its master Vecna's escape from the Demiplane of Dread, but it is unclear who would be its new master, if the land has escaped simply dissolving into the Mists.
