Shackles of Thartir Item in Miscellaneous | World Anvil

Shackles of Thartir

The Shackles of Thartir are powerful magical chains, forged by an entity or entities unknown from a uniquely Thartiran metal. Unbreakable except by magical weapons, the chains have the power to grow in length, re-connect when broken, and tighten themselves around whatever or whomever they are binding. If one has a magical weapon suited to the task, it is possible to take a "cutting" of a set of the Shackles of Thartir to use as a new set.   The original set of Shackles were used by the Lord Elder to bind the Beast in Thartir. He took the first cutting back to Ashinnhta and uses them against his enemies, including those he banishes to Thartir.   It is thought that the Shackles themselves have their own will. Some believe that they contain the essence of Thar the Titan. Others believe that they are independent of any known entity and only serve the Lord Elder because his purposes are in line with their own. One legend says that the Shackles serve the most powerful; another that they are biding their time, waiting for a more worthy master.

Context

Thartir

One of the Five Realms, traditionally used by the Lord Elder as a place to banish his non-mortal enemies. Legends say that Thartir is a hellish dimension devoid of indigenous life. Legends are wrong ...

Lord Elder

Leader of the semi-immortal Ishinnhe, ruler of the realm Jitua and aspiring ruler of the other realms. Claims to be fully immortal and chosen by the gods to be the Rightful Ruler of the Five Realms, but it's all propaganda and manipulation.

The Beast

According to legend, the Beast is the original and most powerful enemy of the Lord Elder. The two originally conspired to steal immortality from her people but betrayal led to war and her imprisonment in Thartir.

Ashinnhta

Home of the Ishinnhe. Ashinnhta is located in the realm of Jitua, separate from the mortal world.

Titan

The five Titans Alta, Ekhan, Hjem, Jitu, and Thar play a key role in many different creation myths across the Five Realms, which are named after them. Thar, naturally, is the Titan associated with the creation of Thartir.
