Heat-Draining Spell

A very rare and powerful spell, the heat-draining spell can be extremely dangerous. For those who can perform the spell, technology is generally preferred for the day-to-day demand of a cold climate. While newcomers to the spell might be tempted to cut their energy bill by using the heat-draining spell to preserve their food or replace their air conditioning, besides the hazards the spell itself poses, they might get some odd looks from guests who can't understand why their freezer works when not plugged in.
The heat-draining spell is, however, quite a tricky spell to use in moderation. To say it is more commonly used for bigger and less mundane purposes wouldn't necessarily be accurate, as nearly half of those who try to master it give themselves hypothermia in the process of attempting to refine it for everyday use, but it was certainly designed with bigger purposes in mind than a magical alternative to air conditioning or making instant ice cream. (That said, there is a popular ice cream brand which secretly uses the heat-draining spell to great effect.)
An example of the kind of use the heat-draining spell was actually created for is part of the Box's security system. The Box, the most secure magical prison in the world, is protected by many layers of spells, the heat-draining being only one of them. Without the means to protect oneself magically from the spell, anyone would catch hypothermia within minutes of venturing into the area where the spell is cast. By the time they made their way to the next layer, the hypothermia would be fatal.
