Winged Fish

Overview

The winged fish is a fish native to the Shomorian Sea of Mirsivna. The winged-fish resembles an albacore tuna in shape, and body, with the exception of a purple color to it and the possession of two large feathery black wings in place of fins. Like many of the other animals that call the Shomorian Sea, the winged fish is not lacking in how much it appears to be a deital joke.

General Background

The winged fish were very much a product of the demigoddess Shomori's quick-witted sense of humor. When her uncles, Thew and Veril discussed and argued over who would recieve credit for creating the Crimson King Bird, Shomori added her own magic to it and transformed the bird to a bright shade of crimson. At this, Veril made the comment, "And I suppose you want it to be a fish too?"
Shomori, naturally, said yes and turned one of the birds into the winged fish, much to the chagrin of Veril and the humor of Thew. This was the natural beginning of the fish that would become a delicacy for the Yerda due to the lurking danger of The Shomorian Sea.

Appearance

The winged fish has an oblong body which tapers at either end and large, round, golden eyes. Its facial features are pointed and narrow, which is where it differs in appearance from a longfin tuna. It still, however, maintains a caudal fin, a first and third dorsal fins, in addition to an anal fin. It differs in appearance, however, as the place just behind the gills where its pectoral fins should be, instead have large, black feathered wings.
The winged fish has a crimson underbelly, and crimson tipped fins, but an irridescant purple main body.

Environmental Navigation

Because it has wings, the winged-fish isn't the best swimmer. Instead, it stays in relatively calm and shallow areas, and relies on the currents of the waters around it to help it glide upwards to the surface for short periods of time, navigating solely on the presence of electrical currents around it and the temperature. Because of this, it's far more likely to find the winged fish feeding on the sandy sea floor rather than using its wings to help it float on the top of the water to snatch up unsuspecting prey.

Diet

A winged fish's diet consists solely of other animals. Much of this includes smaller fish and other soft body animals. However, the winged fish is also able to float on the surface of the sea for a time, playing dead to attract birds– such as the Crimson King Bird– before it drags them under to eat them.
