Depsai, The Tower of Despair
Overview
Depsai, otherwise known as The Tower of Despair is a construction along equator of the rogue planet Orvzen. While no longer habited, it was the last refuge of those of the Dashoda who didn't leave Orvzen with the rest of their people. It subsisted using the ice around it for power for a time, but eventually it became the final resting place of the Dashoda who had remained behind.General Background
Depsai stands at about 830 meters, built predominantly of reinforced concrete, and thoroughly insulated against the cold. It was the last refuge built by those of the Dashoda, who either didn't want to leave their doomed home, or had hoped for a different future and ran out of time due to resources and harsh circumstances. Depsai hosts a total of 266 levels, each about five meters in height. 100 of those levels exist below ground, while 166 of them exist above ground and contribute to the tower's massive height of 830 meters (about 2,723 feet). The tower was built to be the last life boat of the Dashoda on Orvzen, having the capability to harvest energy both from geothermal activity and thermodynamics. The building hosts more than 250 rooms of varying sizes, and includes everything that a population could possibly need. The tower holds the remains of once vast and verdant botanical gardens featured as parks, along with schools, health and exercize related areas, residential living quarters, places of worship, places of works that featured the arts, humanities, the sciences, medicine, jobs to support living, sciences and more technical focused jobs. Additionally it hosts the remains of several hydroponic gardens and meat synthesis labs and the related production areas needed, along with several shafts, elevators, and room dedicated to energy collection and overall maintenance. Additionally, the tower also contains a crematorium and burial chamber, in addition to archives, and air and water recycling systems.Method of Power
Depsai was originally powered off of two forms of energy; geothermal energy and the energy garnered from thermodynamics. For geothermal purposes, energy was derived from Orvzen's core. For thermodynamics, given the lack of a sun, the oxygen ice and snow were harvested from the inhospitable outside and then evaporated to collect energy for powering the tower. What Went Wrong
The tower had been sustainably built and should have lasted for as long as the core of the planet was still warm. It did, however, manage to support and house what appeared to be five generations of Dashodan people, before things broke down. The parts of the tower's machinery, which were used for geothermal energy collection broke down. Either the people didn't know, or weren't able to replace them quickly enough, due to having to mine and machine the materials themselves before the additional labor of maintaining delicate systems. Add to this another breakdown which lead to being unable to harvest energy from Thermodynamics. This double breakdown was ultimately what lead to the demise of all the people that called the tower home, as they couldn't maintain it fast enough, and it was a dominoe effect of break down due to a design flaw wherein there wasn't nearly enough redundancy to keep everything running smoothly. Because of this, energy collection wasn't nearly enough to heat and power everything, let alone continue the air and water recycling systems.Legacy
Depsai, though empty and a tomb to the Dashodan people that had once dwelled within its rooms and halls, stands as a monument to the fact that they once walked the surface of Orvzen. It stands as a reminder that some Dashoda, however different, could still be out there amongst the starless void above the planet. It stands too as a testament of mystery, a beacon that inspires curiousity, wonder, loneliness, and great sadness in even the those untouched and immune to mortal death. While theAbout
