Frostmane Strider
The Frostmane Strider is a deer-like animal that lives in the temperate forests, highlands and tundras of Mirateia, they typically have a shaggy fur coat to deal with the colder climates, and the fur colour tends to range from a snowy white in the winter to silvery grey or light brown during the warmer months.
The antlers have a crystalline appearance. They are semi-translucent and shimmer in the light, resembling frosted glass or ice. They curve backwards and branch elegantly and typically reach a length of about a meter, with legends of antlers reaching nearly 2 meters.
The Frostmane Strider is a social creature, living in herds of 6-20 individuals led by a dominant female. Being herbivores, they primarily feed on lichens, mosses, and other frost-resistant shrubs or grass. Some of the plants they eat have magical properties, which are believed to give them their special antlers. Their temperament is generally shy and skittish, but they can be dangerous when cornered, and their antlers are sharp.
Their fur is highly priced for making warm cloaks and garments for those travelling in colder climates, the anthers are often used by mages and in rituals, or simply crafted into jewellery or tools by artisans.
Frostmane Striders are said to leave faint glowing hoofprints in the snow when they walk and while this effect only lasts for a few hours, if an adventure stumbles upon such a glowing track, they will typically follow it as it's believed by many that these tracks bring the person good luck in their life.
During the colder months, the males will engage in an amazing display of antler clashes to secure the right to mate with the dominant female of the herd, these clashes scatter frost-like particles of antlers all over the frozen ground and these small pieces are gathered by adventures or hunters and sold for a decent price to mages, clerics and the like.
