Antisana

Antisana is a large savanna in the southwestern half of the Empire of Dercia . At the same time, the Empire officially claimed the land to be theirs. The few inhabitants of the area accepted the Empire as their ruler. It is still very much a place with only a hint of civilization. The Imperial military does visit the area from time to time to show the flag. Still, there can be months, if not years, between the visits. So in the meantime, the land's inhabitants continue their daily life as they always have.
Due to the only symbolic presents of the Empire in the area, plenty of bays or caves have become home to smugglers and pirates. And likewise, the area is also where people on the run will try and reach the remotenes of the land, which gives them the chance to start over again in one of the small villages or lay low for a while until those chasing them give up.
Scholars have wondered why such a rich and fertile land as Antisana doesn't have a larger population but one of the most accepted theories is that the reason for this is that compared to the rest of the Empire, Antisana is very poor in good settlement places that also offer fresh drinking water within a reasonable distance. While Antisana does have rivers and lakes with fresh water, many of the rivers have carved themself so deep into the ground that it would be hard for people to access the water, likewise with the lakes easily, were many of them are formed as a result of sinkholes that have then been filled with water and while there are villages and even a small town that has chosen to live around one of these, these are more the exception to the rule.

The land is mostly flat, with only a few large hills and deep river valleys breaking up the flat landscape.
