Aelirion
The Aelirion is a type of crossbow used by the elvish archers in the Dercian legions.
The units in the legions using these crossbows are known under the name of "Luminae Arcanarii"
Aelirion crossbows have been known to have been around in their current form for centuries and it's possible to find predecessors in artwork dating back millennia. the crossbows gained their current shape and function when at that time the Kingdom of Dercia came in contact with a small elvish kingdom and the first round were repelled but over time were able to grind them down and force them to surrender. Still, due to how the elvish crossbow users had been deadly to the Dercians, the Dercians wanted to incorporate them into their forces.
Sometime after the elvish kingdom was incorporated into the Dercian legions, a human blacksmith and an elvish archer were testing a crossbow that had been repaired using human steel and during the test it turned out that the human steel had slightly more power to it and was able to transfer more power to the bolt and in return increasing the crossbows effective range by 14 meters.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
To reload the crossbow, the archers have to manually pull the strong back, for the Aelirion this can typically be done with the hands but its possible to use a stirrup to cock the crossbow.
Unlike normal crossbows, the Aelirion dont use physical bolts but instead when the trigger is pulled and releases the bowstring, a bolt of fire is created and rapidly moves forward.
The reloading of the crossbow can be done in 10-30 seconds depending on the skill of the user.

Ooo fire crossbows. I like that they are a joint effort between humans and elves to make something better than either could do alone. :)
