Isaacson Pacific Hospital

Purpose / Function

IPH was built with the purpose of being a borderless hospital, not owned or controlled by any government and therefore unlimited in those it may offer aid to, much like the organisation from a century or two earlier known as ‘Doctors Without Borders’. As such, it was built out in the middle of the Pacific ocean.

It has docking bays for several ambulance ferries, and a helipad for multiple emergency helicopters. Inside, it has a medical university, as well as a couple large blocks of medical wards. Just off the side of it, there is also a museum commemorating the greatest doctors and medical achievements.

Architecture

Most of the building is in a 2210s post-cyberpunk style, with its back-to-roots brick patterning combined with the geometric shapes characteristic of most architectural styles from the 21st Century onwards. However, the western wing of the hospital is built in a more dated 2150s Scorrian style, focusing on cubes and vibrant colours, with plants encouraged to grow over top.

History

The Isaacson was originally conceived as an idea by Agatha Z. Isaacson-Northumberland in early 2157, and she managed to gather the funds to build it through charity work, government grants and her own wealth only a year later. Over the course of the next year, the hospital was built, until it opened on the 8th of July, 2159.

For the most part, the Isaacson has remained intact over the course of its existence. However, in 2218, it was bombed by both factions during the Texo-Floridian conflict, for accepting refugees from the other faction. This is why the western wing has such a distinct architectural style to the rest of the facility.

Tourism

Due to PacifiMed’s nature as a functional hospital, it doesn’t really lend itself to tourism, other than the museum section. That said, medical students, history nerds, and those curious about medical history often come to visit said museum to see old medical artefacts. As well as this, some architecture students may visit the hospital due to it being one of the few remaining Scorrian structures.
