Here's a quick world history

The year is 217 After Scalding

The current age (0 A.S.) was kicked off by a months long series of meteor showers commonly referred to as the Star Scalds

The impacts from the meteors triggered a massive die-off, forest fires, and subsequent mini ice age

Civilization nearly collapsed, plague and famine further strained those who survived the immediate onslaught from the Star Scalds

The mini ice age caused by ash blanketing the sky lasted 30 years

By 100 AS most areas had calmed down enough for subsistence farming to make a comeback without needing druidic assistance.

In 180 AS, the Baron Vortaruk of the Emerald Coast declared himself king and began his campaign to once again share the light of civilization with the world.

Now, King Vortaruk is in his final years, and as is tradition among minotaurs, granting titles and lands to groups that would otherwise pose a threat to his heir's rule. In exchange for an oath of fealty to his house your organization has been given the deed to the Castle Cragmaw in the Maw Valley.

Along with the deed you are accompanied by a company of experienced and loyal infantry and half as many (gang-pressed) laborers.

The age immediately before the star scalds was one ruled over by an Elven Empire (name TBD).

And the age before that was ruled by a human empire.

And the age before that was ruled by dragons.
