Zenaster was born of a noble family in the feywild where he spent his childhood. As he grew, his demeanor was more like the beings found on the Prime Material plane rather than those of the Feywild which led to him being socially ostracized. As a young adult he joined an organization called the Lunar Troupe to try and find a sense of belonging.
The Lunar Troupe were a band of fey creatures, predominantly eladrin, who numbered around a dozen members. They were a group dedicated to the goddess Sehanine and spread their word through music. Zenaster wasn't particularly religious but worshiped the moon to a degree and felt assured by the members of the group that Sehanine was an avatar of the moon, giving him a reason to feel as though they shared beliefs.
He traveled with the group spreading the word of Sehanine through his music and as he grew closer to them, he became more involved in their less public escapades. His direct superior was also his partner and mentor and trained him in stealth and thievery.
It began with missions with the goal of transferring resources from the non-believers to those who supported Sehanine, generally through stealing from one to give to another. As he continued to have success he earned more trust and was eventually tasked by his superior to murder the chief of a particular village who was a firm believer of Aurelia.
This mission was against Zenaster's own beliefs and he felt a sense of betrayal from his mentor by her giving him such a task. He only worshiped the moon as his family had traditionally done and believed in Sehanine as an embodiment of the moon. He joined the Lunar Troupe to be able to have a sense of camaraderie with others who worshiped the moon as his family had done, and to escape the feeling of being an outcast. He was fine with stealing from others if he believed they didn't need what he took and that the others he gave the goods to were in greater need of it, but taking of life was too far for the good of spreading what he felt were his beliefs.
After departing for the mission, Zenaster instead set out on a journey to escape the feywild entirely. He never felt a sense of belonging with its residents due to his less dubious nature compared to the typical beings who inhabited it, and the only group that he felt a connection with was no longer a place he felt comfort in.
After finding and taking a portal to the Material Plane, he wandered from place to place exploring the world and looking for a place to call home for a significant portion of his current life; roughly 70 years. With his musical experience gained through public performances with the Lunar Troupe, he earned himself a nights rest and food at many tavern across the country. He earned pocket money through theft of those who he felt needed the money less than he did and got by just fine. He didn't feel it was morally wrong, but knew it was against the law and to avoid getting caught, never stayed in one place to long; at least until he met a band of adventurers who seemed to be called the Greenbottle Brigade.

After running away from the Lunar Troupe and the feywild, he still believes in Sehanine but isn't particularly religious/devoted.
After meeting Aurelia face to face, the deity that the Lunar Troupe campaigned against, his beliefs in Sehanine now waver further now that he knows the Lunar Troupe was wrong.
