Allay

Allays are magical beings that roam the Overworld. There is much mystery that surrounds them and how they came to be.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Allays are capable of duplicating once given an amethyst crystal.

Ecology and Habitats

It is unknown where allays are naturally found, although they are often found being held captive by outcast illagers.

Additional Information

Domestication

Allays are tamed once they are given an item to hold by a human.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Allays are often used by humans to transfer items across long distances, occasionally a more efficient process than using redstone transporters or escorted carriages. They are targeted by outcast illagers and corrupted, turning them into vexes.

Facial characteristics

The faces of each allay change once they are tamed to resemble that of the person they take after.

Average Intelligence

Allays are considerably more intelligent than most mobs and are able to problem solve. They know how to use tools and are able to appreciate music, which implies that they have a decent understanding of the concept of art. They also are capable of all the emotions that humans are capable of. They can eventually learn to understand the language their human speaks in its entirety, a trait which is unique to them.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Allays have remarkable hearing and sight, and their sense of touch is nigh unparalleled. They are incapable of smelling or tasting, due to them not needing to eat. Allays share a magical bond with their caretakers and are able to sense when they are in danger.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Allays share a mutually beneficial relationship with humans. They carry an item their human requests them to hold, and in turn they are taken care of by said human, who often deters illagers from targeting them.

Civilization and Culture

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Allays by default are afraid of illagers and humans. Allays that are wandering the world are able to recognize a generous soul on sight and will approach them, hoping to be given an item. Allays that have been captured are typically indifferent towards most mobs, even humans and illagers. This is due to them dwelling on their own loneliness and despair, a torment inflicted onto them by their illager captors when they are being prepared to be transformed into vexes. Once a kind human gives one an item, they are friends for life.
According to some religious beliefs, allays are born from the ruler of death, Marceres, when he merges numerous kind souls of deceased mortals together, and then sets them free into the Overworld as reward for their kind deeds in life.   For those who worship Steve the Patron as the son of Notch, allays are believed to be the Patron's children who spread his legacy of kindness and love. There is some evidence that points towards this due to the presence of many allays in a temple sacred to the Patron, one that holds the Grand Sword, a legendary blade that was wielded by the Patron when he was a mortal. Moreso is that the original appearance of allays before becoming tamed have faces that resemble that of the Patron himself.   For outcast illagers, allays are seen as pests spawned by the false god in order to spread the weak virtues of kindness and generosity across the illagers.
Lifespan
Allays are not observed to have a despawn timer, meaning that it is believed that they can live forever.
