Lacertis
Lacertis is a habitable tropical world, notable for being the homeworld of the Lacertans and the capital of the Lacertan Techno-Protectorate. The planet, the third satellite of the Lacerta Lumina System, has one orbiting moon of its own. Lacertis has a significant biosphere and hydrosphere, with large foliage-covered landmasses intertwined with seas. Most of the landmass is contiguous, connected by isthmuses, many of which are covered by water during the hemisphere's wet season.
Settlements on Lacertis are relatively evenly distributed. Like other planets, major settlements are situated along the coastlines and waterways of the planet, but many can be found inland and supplied with water and other cooling fluids through aqueducts. More mountainous, desert, and polar regions are mostly uninhabited, featuring only small settlements due to a lack of resources. Particularly, the deserts remain undeveloped due to a lack of cooling mechanisms for the Techno-Protectorate's server requirements.
The Lacertan population of the planet resides entirely within virtual space, contained in servers that cover large parts of the world. Even though most of the population regularly uses synthetic bodies to interface with the physical world, the planet's development is drastically different to other species' worlds. There are very few residential areas, as the digitised population lives in virtual worlds. What urban development that does exist is primarily for the benefit of the organic population of the planet, who have migrated from elsewhere or otherwise descended from migrants.
Aside from major government administration servers, the most important structures on Lacertis are the Identity Repository and the Identity Complex. The Identity Repository is the largest single server in the Techno-Protectorate, originally built to house the digitised minds of the dying Lacertans during The Waning. It has since been integrated into the overall Lacertan server network, but many of the original Lacertans continue to reside on those servers for sentimental reasons. The Identity Complex is a major facility where workers are reposnsible for the creation and upbringing of new digital minds, effectively acting as a digital maternity ward, day care, and school complex for hundreds of millions of minds.
