Exotic Gases

Exotic gases refer to a variety of gases with similar uses. These include Engos Vapor, Lythuric Gas, and Satramene Gas, among others, but there are a wide variety of these types of gases across the galaxy. Exotic gases are found in the atmospheres of gas giants and toxic worlds, where space-based mining platforms carefully extract them. Although the gas itself is fairly intert, the extraction process can be dangerous due to the atmospheric conditions of the types of world the gas is found in. In addition, nebulae often contain trace amounts of exotic gases, and starbases specialising in processing dust clouds often acquire exotic gases as a byproduct. Exotic gases can also be found deep within planetary mantles, where specialised mining equipment is required to mine them. The presence of the gas on a planet is usually detectable by trace amounts being emitted through swamps or bogs. In addition, exotic gases can be created artificially through specialised refineries, but this is significantly less efficient than mining them through natural sources.

The main use of exotic gases in the galaxy is to enhance scientific output. Due to the many varied uses of exotic gases, as well as their inherent stableness when unrefined, they are exceptionally useful for experiments. Exotic gases have also been noted as excellent fuel for sublight engines, increasing their output by as much as fifteen percent when applied. However, given the rarity of exotic gases, this is not economically efficient. In addition to engine additives, exotic gases can create complex dampening fields within energy shields that improve their ability to absorb or deflect incoming fire. One of the more common uses of exotic gases is in terraforming, where the right combination of gases can drastically improve the speed at which a planet's atmosphere is modified. Finally, some exotic gases have various effects approximate to recreational drugs in many species' physiology. This has made them very popular in the entertainment sector, as exotic gases can be inhaled directly with little refining or medical side effects.
