Enlightenment Vessel

Enlightenment Vessels are a class of spacecraft exclusive manufactured by Minamar Specialized Industries for the purpose of space superiority and large-scale personnel transport. More akin to a mobile starbase, these ships are used to transport the vast numbers of indentured servants MSI collects from pre-FTL civilisations through deep space. The schematics for the Enlightenment Vessel were discovered in the early 21st century CE in an old Olinbar databank located on an MSI colony. After some decades of reverse engineering, the first Enlightenment Vessel was constructed in 2059 CE and immediately deployed as a long-range, extreme-capacity transport.

Owing to the technological defiiency of MSI at the time, Enlightenment Vessels had to be built to the exacting standards in the recovered schematics. MSI technology, particularly in the area of structural integrity fields, was grossly insufficient to replicate the technology, and attempts to modify the design ended in catastrophic hull failure. This ultimately makes the Enlightenment Vessel a large, imposing, and rather under-armed ship, better suited for intimidation and transport than direct fighting. It does have substantial armaments, particularly for the early period in galactic history where it made its largest mark. Enlightenment Vessels are armed with six long-range kinetic artillery batteries and three large strike craft hangars, capable of deploying up to 100 craft each.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the ship is its oversized cloaking device. Due to the ship's incredible size, it uses a bespoke cloaking field generator that can make the ship entirely invisible to sensors. The field is unstable due to the size, however, and is primarily used to make grand entrances above pre-FTL worlds rather than any combat application.

The cargo of Enlightenment Vessels is almost uniformly populations from pre-FTl civilisations that have made deals with MSI. Most of the ship is rows and rows of cryo-banks, and a fully laden vessel is capable of carrying between twenty and fifty million cryo pods (depending on the size of the species). Much of the crew onboard these ships are dedicated to maintaining the cryo-banks, as failures can be catastrophic. The most well-known example took place in 2186 CE, when several cryo pods failed, causing their occupants to be ejected by the emergency release function. These failures went unnoticed by the maintenance crews, allowing the escaped slaves to wake up more of their number and ultimately launch a mutiny against the ship's crew, causing the vessel to crash-land on the world known as Freedom's Landing.
