Session 4

General Summary

31st day of Reshoa, 326 RE

After resting at Marlarna's and rising early to investigate Crystaldeep Mines, the yet unnamed party of adventurers now equipped with a working knowledge of their sickness and its cause, headed back into town to research what they had learned. Marlarna dismissed herself for the day to attend to other matters as the party went on their way to find the local archival building, a nondescript structure with only a few windows. Upon entering they found themselves in a small warehouse of scrolls, tomes, and tablets. They approached the desk of a young Tiefling woman who was working intently on transcribing notes. Furthermore, she appeared to have no arm and used many magical spells to assist her work. Amalyn shared introductions with the party and after some brief conversation, retrieved the documents the party requested. The party then found a desk and got to researching, combing through ancient texts for any clues as to where they could go next. A few promising leads rose to the surface, the strongest of which seemed to be an apparently anti-draconic flower called Flamepetal. Satisfied with their findings, they exited the archives and went to rendezvous with Mona once again.

On their way, they noticed some commotion headed south and chose, for now, to tend to the more pressing concerns of their sickness. They arrived at Mona's office during a session but she excused the patient and ushered them in, eager to hear about the research. They shared their findings and discussed the potential of Flamepetal, Mona reading from an encyclopedia on Flora. After much deliberation, they left Mona's still unsure about what exactly their plan of action was, but with a further understanding of Flamepetal and where to find it. They then trekked to the south mine to follow up on the earlier commotion and found that another attack had occurred during their office visit. Luckily there were no casualties and only minor structural damages, this time. After speaking with a few guards however, the party resolved to assist in fending off the attacks in the future whenever they could.

Not wasting any time, Rynn sought to get a message to her temple, Shining Light, which is situated high in the Fiery Peaks. The party had determined that those mountains would be a prime candidate to find Flamepetal. They found a local temple to the Mother of Power and garnered the assistance of a cleric to send a message to a friend of Rynn's and a priest at her temple, Lalthek. He responded shortly after that he was not in possession of the plant, but posited that an active volcano in the Firey Peaks called Cinderspike could still have some of the flower around its caldera, likely due to the extreme heat and remote location. The party, after offering some prayers to the Mothers, exited to find a place to bed down for the night. Not wanting to ignore any possible attacks during the night, they explored a few options before settling on Malarian's Owl familiar to keep watch.

After most of the party bedded down for the night, A'Lala decided to strike up some conversation at the bar, with Malarian observing. After sharing arguably a bit too much with a dwarven stranger, a halfling lady perked up at A'Lala's mention of legal troubles. Mabel, clearly someone who keeps up with the local politics, then proceeded to grill A'Lala on the status of the case against the party and, with Malarian there to vouch for A'Lala, offered her assistance as a lawyer, providing them with a list of possible motions to file for and a suggestion to plead not-guilty. Feeling equipped but not necessarily prepared, the party all eventually went down for bed and awoke the next morning to Marlarna, ready to escort them to their pre-trial.

32nd day of Reshoa 32, 326 RE

On their way, again, another attack occurred- this time at the East mine. Unfortunately the party was unable to assist, but it became clear then that the attacks were going to be an ongoing issue.

They arrived to a humble courtroom, overheard part of a very heated discussion between Sinoh and another figure from a room nearby, and then waited for far too long on the judge to bring the court to meeting. For the first time as he entered, the party laid eyes on their accuser - Delacent Camos, who stated he would be presiding over the trial. He took attendance, laid out the charges, reviewed the sentencing, and then called for the party's plea. The court then took a brief recess for the party to discuss their plan, eventually opting to ask for a Motion for a Bill of Particulars, a Motion for Discovery, and a Motion of Continuance- all of which were granted at time of request. The party also took time to examine the evidence: A torn cloth soaked with Aasimar blood, a familiar blue dragonscale, the hairs of a instrument bow, and an order for mining tools. These items, along with two testimonies, and Delacent's demeanor, led the party to believe that there seemed to be something else going on underneath this trial. However, they were still uncertain as to what that could be. In the end, the party pleaded "Not-Guilty" and the Trial date was set for Reshoa 37 as per the Motion of Continuance. Delacent adjourned the court and exited the room, while the party was dismissed and filed out onto the street, ready for what was to come next.
