Ounism

History

The details of Ounism remain mostly unknown to modern society, however recent research indicates that it was an Atheistic worldview centered around the use of primitive magics, one's magical aptitude, and magical Faunology. This also included study and contemplation of an invisible source of Magic called The Weave (called Fibrology) which was known at the time but not understood. It is believed to be the very first religion adopted by the collective of mortals alive at that time. Not much is known about Ounism, but it is believed to have been birthed out of the natural progression of magic being passed on through the Fey and entering the mortal realm.

The most important discovery made involving Ounism was that society's current understanding of what The Weave is and how it functions, being the source of all magic, likely originated from Ounism.

Creation Myth

At the genesis of time, ere the cosmos expanded hitherto, there existed no beings, divine nor mortal, and The Infinite Dawn spread over the totality, ever warm and bright. The cosmos therein existed a mighty immeasurable expanse of energy and magic that encompassed the entirety, hitherto known as the Weave. For since the beginning, the Weave demonstrated immutable truth, and by this truth did reality take its shape. Truth, with reality, intertwined, and bound themselves together forevermore. This Weave, by it's very essence, could house no inhabitant nor wild thing nor any creature living or dead. As powerful magics, divine and wild, can shape the foundations of existence, in the same way did the Weave bend reality. Therefore the Weave expanded over the cosmos, tangling through the mesh of reality, ever transmuting for an endless epoch. So the Weave shifted for all time and expanded in infinite vastness till every place in reality was veiled by it's light. And the Weave did not lie still.

And so the Weave grew into a frenzy, churning and tangling itself into disarray. So the turmoil of motion and noise propagated throughout the whole of the fabric and the Weave was pushed and pulled in all directions, breaking and reforming at every point. This was called 'Chaos'. As the Weave churned and spread out to all reality, a great number of fibers seized these waves, remaining still and resolute. For as they stood fast, there was no churning within them. So there the fibers opposed with resolution, and the surges did not pass through. This was called 'Law'. And the Weave was balanced but did not lie still. Hence the First Truth. And this the Infinite Dawn did endure. And so the Weave grew throughout existence, one side rigid and bound, the other loose and free. But the Weave could not endure the war between Chaos and Law. The Chaos shook violently against the immovable Law, and this threatened to destroy reality. So the weave grew between the two forces, pushing them away from each other. And the separation became steady and relaxed. Therefore, the Weave was not torn by Chaos and Law. This was called 'Neutral'. And the Weave was balanced but did not lie still. Hence the Second Truth. And this the Infinite Dawn did endure.

And so the Weave grew restless, and the fibers of the Weave expanded in divergence. Many fibers each transformed and moved away from their own center of the Weave, each according to its own nature. Hence, a great number of fibers bent downward from the Weave and pulled it away from the Dawn. These fibers sought to control the Weave by force. And this was called 'Evil'. Thus the absolute nature of the Weave was shifted and this transformation caused the Weave to convulse. Again, this threatened to destroy reality. So a great number of fibers bent the Weave upward and pulled it away from the depths. These fibers sought to preserve the nature of the Weave by free will. And this was called 'Good'. And each fiber remained in alignment with the Weave according to its nature. These were called 'Chaotic', 'Lawful', or 'Neutral'. And the Weave was balanced but did not lie still. Hence the Third Truth. And this the Infinite Dawn did endure.

And the Weave expanded evermore. Toward one infinity, the Weave continued to solidify and stiffen with such rigor that it therefore became so affixed that all energy was lost and it faded into nothingness. This marked the boundary of Law. And toward another infinity the Weave continued to vibrate and shake with such ferocity that it began to fracture and break, thus shattering into pieces of energy that immediately blinked out of existence. This marked the boundary of Chaos. And the Weave rose up, and expanded with such speed and vitality toward the Infinite Dawn that it was scorched with light and incinerated into extinction. This marked the heights of Good. And the Weave plunged down, and dove with such force away from the Infinite Dawn that it became lethargic and dead, withering away into oblivion. This marked the Depths of Evil. And there was nothing except the Weave. And alone the Weave endured. And the Weave was balanced but did not lie still.

Beliefs

Afterlife

Upon death, ones essence is reabsorbed back into the Weave from whence it came. If one possessed enough understanding of the Weave in life, they will be a great boon to the world in the next. Those who did no seek the weave, will not be granted a next life.

Morality & Practices

The Primary Commandment of Ounism is to Understand magic and the Weave as best as one can, be in tune with it, become a breathing embodiment of the Weave. Daily life for those who believe should include study of magical, expression and practice of the magic, and meditation upon the weave.

There are no gods or deities in Ounism, only the power of the Great Weave, which gives live and purpose to all; Both those who seek to know its nature, and those who are unaware of its presence entirely.

Sanctity in Ounism is contained in only two concepts: That of the magical in all of its various forms and the natural world and its inhabitants; For all are woven together. There is very little one can do to dishonor the Weave, however. Even a strict rejection of the Weave and its understanding will have no bearing on the individual, they shall only be reabsorbed when they perish.
