Milios Overview

Milios is a magical world

Magic is widespread and available to everyone on Milios but requires either a natural gifting, arduous study, or deep devotion. Therefore, it is still a blessing to those who are able to wield it but not so rare as to be mightily impressive and/or strange to those outside the practice.

It is speculated that magic originated within the Fey themselves- creatures from another plane of existence who walked the planet for a time long ago.

Milios is a religious world

Religions are worldwide, yet limited, consisting of four mainstream beliefs that differ in cosmology, values, practices, and general expectations. While humankind does generally tend toward congregating based on in-group/out-group dynamics leading to a general majority religion in each nation, each individual's beliefs are independent of their species, native language, geographic location, lifespan, and trade.

Believers of every religion are spread across generational, cultural, and national boundaries. Therefore, the people of Milios experience social, cultural, and economic benefits, conflicts, and biases due to their religious beliefs.

The cosmos have been mapped and mythologized.

Milios is located in a binary star system that contains the two host stars, two exo-planets, and one moon. Milios orbits in a figure-8 pattern between the two host stars. The other planet, deemed Zellin, orbits outside both stars in a much slower elliptical pattern.

The two stars are called Saereis ("say-rees") and Syneis ("sai-nees"). Saereis is a large, yellow-bodied star that is the primary  heat-producing celestial body responsible for Milios' seasonal variations. Syneis is a smaller, dull-brown star that produces a dramatically smaller amount of heat and light. Milios also has one discovered moon, called Kepi ("keh-pee") which was used to marking the calendar year.

Milios spins on a nearly vertical axis, resulting in 24hr days. It completes a stellar circuit once every 320 days. The 320-day year experiences a seven season cycle due to the distance from Saereis, as Syenes gives off very little heat.

The year begins in the cold season of Evercrest and continues into the warming and rainy seasons, called Greenspass and Rainspike ("ray-ens-peak") respectively. Then follows Etesaereis (meaning: Eternal Saereis), the hottest season followed by Duskloom as Milios again crosses its orbital mid-point. Once into the Syneis loop, the harvest season of Duskloom follows, then into the cold season of Dualsun - named for being the only time of year to see both stars in the sky during the day. (Both stars are not visible during other seasons due to the overwhelming brightness of Saereis). The year concludes with the coldest season, Froswane .

The year is divided into eight months based on the lunar cycle, each lasting 80 days. A Full moon occurs on the 40th day of every other season and a new moon on the 40th of the rest. These months are further broken up into eight Tendais (or "Ten-Days"). Milios is currently in its 325th year, in an era referred to as "The Restoration Era."

The World's history, cultures, and legends were largely shaped by species, religion, and topography.

The oldest historical records currently date back to around the time of the Shattered Age, a time when the current calendar in use today is thought to have been first implemented worldwide.

Historical records speculate that the Lost civilization of Erroa is responsible for the celestial calendar and is the namesake of this continent, Kaherr.

It is generally accepted that Erroa was lost during the Cosmic Undoing, which marked the beginning of the Age of Ruin. Other than that, very little is known of them.

During the Age of Ruin, the Roshin Dynasty ruled for 318yrs and was responsible for the Grand Purification, an attempt to genocide all Dragonborn as a species. To this day, tensions between humans and dragonborn are weary.
