Divitrism
Creation Myth
Long ago, before there existed any life, three beings of immense power and knowledge sought to exert control over the vast and chaotic energy flowing through the universe. These beings were named Vysen, Losis, and Pajek. Together, out of the endless energy, they formed a new globe where they could create freely, without consequence, and where they could eventually convene with their creation.
Pajek commanded the world to obey his law of return, which he called Renos and filled the world with power. He declared, "All things lesser shall move toward what is greater." Then Losis commanded the world to obey his law of effect, which he called Cynos and he filled the world with time. He declared, "Anything which happens shall affect that which surrounds it." Then Vysen commanded the world to obey his law of equivalence, which he called Alkos and he filled the world with balance. He declared, "No thing shall be gained without something of equal value being first given." After this, they declared themselves gods and went on creating all things in the world within the bounds of their laws.
However, the moment they spoke their laws to be truth, there arose the results of their folly. For the very nature of these laws in conjunction birthed things dark and evil that bastardized what the gods Vysen, Losis, and Pajek intended. The truths of Power, Time, and Balance implied the existence of their opposites. Therefore, there arose two devils called Bazothal and Zephink. Bazothal was born from the creation of Laws, and sought to bring Chaos in all of reality. Zephink was born from the truth of those laws, and sought to act in opposition to those truths. Hence, Bazothal and Zephink were deemed the Lord of Chaos, and the Lady of Darkness. They arose slowly and with great anguish, and plotted to kill the gods who had given them life by sheer happenstance.
Then, during a cosmological event, when the gods were unknowingly at their weakest, there erupted a mighty battle as the devils began their attack. Bazothal and Zephink had been hard at work, creating an army of fiends and abominations just beyond the sight of the gods. This battle raged for millennia and tore up the land. Glancing blows and stray arrows fell upon the newly formed globe creating deep gashes and sunken pits. The devils had the advantage of numbers but could not contend with the strength of the gods. After some time, the armies of the devils were extinguished as the gods won out over the devils. As punishment for their scheming and warring, the gods banished Bazothal and Zephink to the mortal world, within the dominion of the Gods so they could keep a watchful eye on them.
From then onward, the gods continued to create and fill the globe as they kept watch over the devils who in turn sought to bring chaos and darkness to that creation from within.
Beliefs
Afterlife
It is believed that upon death, the spirit of an individual is weighed on Vysen's Great Scale. Those actions that fulfilled the Laws of Divitrism are weighed against those which allowed for the expansion of chaos and darkness. If the scale is tipped toward evil, their soul is immediately annihilated and that individual ceases to exist. But if the scale tips toward goodness then they are allowed to enter the Heavens to convene with their creators and other spirits who passed. In this heavenly realm, each law exists in totality and cannot be broken.
Morality & Practices
There are three main laws of the universe within Divitrism:
- 'Renos' is the law of Return and states that all lesser things move toward greater things.
- 'Cynos' is the law of Effect and states that anything that happens shall affect its surroundings
- 'Alkos' is the law of Equivalence and states that nothing can be gained without something being given.
Each of these laws were created by each of the three Divitristic deities. As a direct result of these laws however, their shadows were also born: Chaos and Darkness. As a result of this now present tension between the God's and their shadows, all whom abide by the ways of Renos, Cynos, and Alkos are deemed good. Those whom oppose these laws then abide by the laws of chaos and darkness and thus are deemed evil.
The commandments of Divitrism are understood as follows:
- Keep the Law of Renos. Seek to grow in understanding and strength. Strive for what is better and leave for dead that which can be surmounted. Do not remain stagnant; Persevere and seek what is greater.
- Observe the Law of Cynos. Do not act in a way that brings chaos and darkness to one's surroundings. Any action taken or decision made should begin with reflection, awareness, forethought. To act brashly is chaotic and to cause chaos brings darkness. Act in the light, and do not be frivolous when decisions.
- Abide the Law of Alkos. Do not be swayed by greed or opulence. Seek only to gain what is deserved by to one's sacrifice, gratitude, and benevolence. Do not take what belongs to another. Maintain a giving and thankful spirit so that what is owed may be taken when it is due.
It is believed and upheld within Divitrism that when under the care of another, to be accepting of all gifts and kind gestures. In this way, you allow your caretaker to practice the Alkos toward you and are not yourself in violation. Work and toil for one's reward are seen as a righteous act that engages every law at once. One must only engage in violence or bloodshed when they maintain the laws of Divitrism. Thus, warfare for those who practice Divitrism is engaged in with honor and integrity.
The highest forms of sacrilege are acts that violate all laws at once. Suicide and self-sabotage are among that which is considered highly offensive to the Divitristic deities. In addition, that which prevents others from keeping in accordance with the laws of Divitrism is highly dishonorable.
Due to the limited understanding and varied interpretations of each law, prayers of forgiveness and acts of repentance are commonplace. These are seen as required reflections to maintain in accordance with the Laws.
