Session 2: A Test Gone Wrong

General Summary

Waking up after the storm, the party opened the large doors and set foot into the tomb where they were greeted by a band of longdead skeletons who brandished arms against the newcomers. After a brief skirmish, the party dispatched the skeletons with Kirbee leading the fight with her bludgeoning hooves. Searching the room after the fight, the party discovered a few recently dead halflings along with some supplies.   In the entrance room of the tomb, the party heard a muffled wailing from east and decided to go through the western door finding a dark pool filled with keys. Using detect magic, the party deciphered the strange words they were given as the entered the room and dove down to find a key with an arcane mark. Pocketing the key, they headed up through one of the two doors to the south.   In the hallway past the right door, stood eight statues, half with wrapped swords and half without. After stepping on a pressure plate, Aettnas discovered the statues were trapped to swing at passerbys and the party divised a way to activate the plates then jump over the extended arms.   This brought the group to a multi-level room with a large wooden statue on a pedestal. After Aettnas set foot on the lower level of the room, the statue sprang into action attacking the party with its two tower shields. A short tough battle later, the party deactiated the golem and grabbed its two shields. They used their key from the pool to open the door in the corner of the room and found gifts left for them by their teachers.   The party made their way back to the room with the pool to find the left door is currently locked. After some debate and a failed attempt of arson by Bernie, the party returned the entrance room and openned the door to the east. This room was a maze of pillars, pitfall traps softened by pillows and levers. Using some quick logic, Ray figured out the combination to open the door and the party made it through to a fork in the tunnels.   The party first attempted to go right, but discovered a closed handleless door and retraced their steps to the left tunnel which forked again, with one door seemingly being the sourcing of the terrified wailing and the other unlocked. Opening the unlocked door, the party faced off against a large territorial beetle who had been enjoying the corpse of another recently deceased halfling. Proving victorious, the party headed south again through the last door in the room.   Upon opening this door, thick choking smoke bellowed out and the party wrapped cloth around their face to help keep out the nauseating fumes. In this room, they discovered two burnt corpses in a still-lit braizer and had to defend against a formitable incorporeal undead. After defeating the strength-sapping foe, the party found another key as well as a magic dagger in the coals of the flames.   Ignoring the wailing still coming from the last door, the party returned to the room with the pool with their new albeit scorched key, and used it to open the remaining door. Aettnas stopped for a brief moment on a stone bench to admire the murals in the room before the party continued down the hallway where they found a door leading into a circular room.   Shortly after the group entered the circular room, the pillar in the center started spinning and shooting out thousands of arrows in every direction. With some quick thinking, the party equipped the tower shields from before and used them to safely navigate across the room to the door on the opposite side which lead them back to the hallway they had been in previously. Here choosing between the room with showering arrows and the wailing from the last door, the party went and finally facing their fear and smashed down the door containing the fearful wailing to discover a terrified halfling survivor named Roldare. Roldare through his insane ramblings told the party of "a dead one who speaks" who slaughtered the trial's set-up group and kidnapped his sister, Dimira, who he swears is still alive.   With this new information, the part reentered the arrow room to find the trap had unloaded completely and finished. They opened the final door and took a few steps towards the stairs to decend.
