Almath

(a.k.a. Almath the Vile)

Almath the Vile- By Ethyl Wormpool   A book seized from the Runecrest Library in Dris Akro’n   The High Priest Almath is one of the greatest men in Halian History. Though he has only served under Halis for half of his life, he has still managed to have a great effect on Halian history. Born in 480, two years before Halis’s age of prosperity, Almath was born to Drow parents in the Underdark. He studied religion in the Halian pantheon of deities and served as a priest. Almath was known for his proficiency with words. In Almath’s old age, Halis took a notice to him. As Almath laid on his death bed, he was suddenly filled with an ethereal energy. He began to speak: “One of pure blood shall rise above the rest. He alone is worthy of life eternal.” Halis, having heard of Almath’s prophecy, promised to preserve his life if Almath would help him fulfil this prophecy, with him as the one true immortal. Almath, eager to please his ruler and further explore this prophecy, agreed. In the years that followed, Almath sacrificed many. Historians estimate that he killed at least one slave per day. By the Oldvalian Calendar of 270 days in a year, over 405 years of Almath’s rule, he killed a minimum of 109,350 slaves.   Almath achieved the name “Almath the Vile” among the slaves. Though he only killed the slaves, unlike his compatriots who did far worse.
