Dreamgliders

"A green light, feathers falling all over the place, water rushing in the distance... What I saw was within her Dream was fantastic yet slightly disturbing.
— Falth, conferring with fellow Dreamglider

Dreamgliding

is a form of being in which Nocturnal Gryphons can enter the Dreamscape as long as there is an intelligent being unconscious in their vicinity and experience their dreams or nightmares in a way as a spectator would. This ability is fairly uncommon and only some Nocturnal Gryphons can learn how to properly use it. Used specifically to help mentally unstable/afflicted individuals deal with their issues or help ease their symptoms. Some are even to spectate dreams of the dead, yet most sane Dreamgliders try to avoid such an experience.   A job of a Dreamglider is not an easy one. Typically these Gryphons are aware of many secrets and desires of their fellow tribe-members, which proves to be both a boon for their negotiating skills as well as a hindrance for their ability to form close relationships. Learning about secrets of their potential mate can be both heartbreaking for the Dreamglider as well as their partner.

Career

Other Benefits

Dreamgliders tend to be well respected, sometimes even feared individuals. Their input is just as valued as one from Wingbinders.

Perception

Purpose

The purpose is to help in areas where Wingbinders's skills cannot. Healing the soul and the mental disorders is something where Dreamgliders shine the most. Knowing the mental state through dreams and fears of their patient can help them diagnose the issue and better find a means of recovery.

Demographics

It is estimated that about 6% of all Nocturnal Gryphons meet the criteria to become a Dreamglider. However, it is not certain whether there are more potential Dreamgliders who are hiding their abilities from others.

Operations

Tools

Their subject must be a member of an intelligent species and unconscious. Dreaming unintelligent species appear only as small "specks" to them.

Dangers & Hazards

The biggest problem Dreamgliders face is oddly enough the fact that their hearts may get overburdened with fears and nightmares they see within others. It is not terribly uncommon to find one eventually succumbing to mental illnesses or even madness themselves, especially in difficult times where their help is needed far too often. If possible, Dreamgliders should regularly consult other Dreamgliders for help.

Reminds me of inception, I love the idea. So when they enter the dreams, how much are they able to affect the dreams? Are there limitations to what they can do within someone else's dream, and how does the dreamer perceive them.   It says that their purpose is to help other, but wouldn't it be really easy for a Dreamglider to become malevolent, harming instead of helping? And if they are in dreams, it seems it would be easy to get away with. Of course with putting evil dreams to another, it would make themselves mad, but wouldn't that just expedite their willingness to harm others?

Hello Kriltch! Dreamgliding is an innate ability that allows gryphons to "read" the dreams. They have no control over them at all, only the sleeper has.   A better analogy would be to say they are able to see the dreamer's dreams like a projection of pictures, feelings or noises. Something like a video that you can see with all your senses but still realize you are not the one experiencing it.

Oh and yes, almost all Dreamgliders there ever were used their ability to help themselves selfishly in one way or another. Wanna impress that gryphoness with a particularly nice gift? Stick around her while she is asleep to find out what she likes!   Some may take it a little bit too far and become extremely unpleasant for their clan. Those individuals will either get punished or expelled altogether from their clan if they did something truly bad.
