The Council

In a town like Midnight Town, it's important to have lots of communication between the many different cultures that converge in a relatively small area. This is typically called the Council, and this place is no exception.   It is not a governing body. The people on the Council are important, but they are not usually responsible for decisions and typically serve in a more advisory role to the actual leaders of whichever species they belong to. The primary decisions have to do with external matters and how to deal with outsiders. The elected mayor of the town is not usually a member but will have a lot of contact with these folks.   The Council is always composed of seven seats. These seats can be filled by multiple people at a time, but when it comes to any kind of decision-making, they get one vote per seat. These seats can be a range of people, but they typically reflect the current primary courts of the town.

The Current Council

At the moment, the primary courts of the area are the Fae Court and the Atlantean Court. As such, they have slightly more representation on the council when it comes to influence. Vampires, mages, and werewolves tend to be lumped in a similar group.   The Ocean Court is primarily represented by a selkie named Romh. Since they have such a high surface presence compared to some of their brethren, it's usually a selkie who fills this position, although more than a few merfolk have made the job work. Romh is Matthew's adoptive father.   The Fae Court is represented by Mr. and Mrs. Lemagre, Jennifer Lemagre's parents. They serve as a singular position, but their close relationship with the King and Queen of the Fae Court gives them a lot of political clout. They are widely considered to be enforcers and their being appointed was hotly contested, but ultimately each people group is allowed to choose their own representative. These two are broadly considered to be untrustworthy and this has caused the Fae Court as a whole to be seen as more aggressive than is perhaps accurate.   Devona and Zakiel Bacon serve as representatives of the Celestials in town, widely considered to be adjacent to the Fae Court at this moment. They tend to trade off in ascendancy. The alignment of the celestial representatives varies broadly, depending on whether they are more angelically or demonically inclined. Externally, this tends to be expressed universally, even if internally they have many differences.   Cazimir Kreshtem is the vampire representative. He's usually quite amiable, but this is seen as a reaction to the recent reputation of the vampires as particularly bloodthirsty. He was selected in the traditional ways, a process which is quite mysterious but according to some involves a lot of contests of will. Or just contests. One person claims that his choosing process included several board games.   Vanna Toledo operates as the werewolf representative. Due to their selection process, she represents a minority of the Midnight Town weres in that she is aggressive enough to pass the trial by combat, which generally runs counter to the common mindset attempted by most local werewolves.   Rojora Kim represents the mages. She is a traditionalist and rarely spends any time with outsiders, which is unfortunate since as the most "human" of the council she takes it upon herself to speak for the less magical humans of Midnight Town. Her efforts are usually counterproductive and end in disaster. Rojora is Matthew's adoptive mother.   The more physically distinguishable folk are represented by Tambor, who is a bigfoot. He's inarguably the most approachable of the council, which is ironic considering the nature of his species is to hide from pretty much everything. Tambor is much more extroverted than most, and his previous job was as a kindergarten teacher. He also once ripped the legs off a predator. His protective instincts are nigh legendary.

Lots of potential here. I look forward to seeing more from you. I think this is a different world than the last one I remember I think was more of a cyberpunk world and this seems like a gothic one. I could be wrong.
