Yggdrasill, The World Tree
Upon the creation of Midgard; the elves planted a seed which eventually blossomed into the treant Yggdrasill. Its roots quickly grew across the land and its seeds carried across the wind giving birth to trees and the eventual creation of all forests in existence today. The roots extended so far that they even began to spread into the other realms and it is this reason that gives the world tree its famous power of dimensional travel. It is said that those that enter Yggdrasill and traverse its roots may find themselves in a new realm entirely let alone a new location. These roots along with the tree itself is inhabited by the Ratatosk, a race of squirrelfolk whom are the offspring of Ratataskor; the messenger of the gods. Those that find themselves close enough to the tree will not only have to deal with the mischievous nature of these squirrelfolk but also the protective instincts of the Children of Yggdrasill; the Children are unique treants birthed from a seed to grow upon Yggdrasill once every one hundred years. As of now, and for much of recorded history, Yggdrasill remains dormant and it is said to remain so until the beginning of Ragnarok.
