Middengeard (mid-DEN-ghurd)

A Primer Introduction to Our World

Middengeard is our home. We believe the world was created by the Angels, and all that inhabits it is by their design.

Continents

There are six continents and 88 countries, but if you are reading this journal, you are most likely concerned with the country of Favont in the continent of Magnus.

The other five continents are Coryza, Towadai, Alles, Meso, and Ocaso.

At the equator, MIddengeard experiences a dry, yet very hot climate, while towards the poles, it is very damp and cold.

Magnus

Magnus is a continent in the northern hemisphere, and contains twenty three countries. The continent trades under Magnus Prime, a coalition of all of the continent’s Guilds that allows easy trade of goods, people and services between countries.

People of Magnus

Magnus is the most blessed of continents. It is here that the Angels returned and gave the most gracious of citizens the gift of Aether, creating the Magi. However, on the island of Favont, Lucian accidentally created Ananans and Marterrans, too.

Thousands of years after the angels left, King Leric I of Peren invaded the island to drive out the Marterrans. He killed Raan Ritaan, the Marterran king, and suddenly all the Marterrans disappeared. One of the Marterrans cursed Leric’s sister, Aeryn DeSteffen, to immortality without sunlight before vanishing, making her the first Nightwalker and the oldest citizen on Middengeard.

Cosmos

As citizens of Magnus, we practice the faith of Cosmos to reflect the teachings of the Angels in our own lives, and to maintain their holy design. There are two schools of thought on these teachings: Habitic and Dissentant. Each has its own version of the Scriptures. (As a Dissentant, you’ll find that version in this journal)

Every community in Magnus has at least one Temple dedicated to one of the twelve angels, and every city has a Minster dedicated to all of them. Everyone is registered with a temple and must be recorded as attending.

Magnus today

When World War III ended in 1045, Middengeard was in a global financial recession. The continent of Magnus decided to industrialise slavery, converting anyone not registered with a Guild into slaves. This accounts for 22% of the population.

The effect has been immediate, and has improved the livelihoods of thousands, increasing industry, lifting the appearance of towns and cities, and reducing stress at work and in the home for all employed citizens.

However, the Reconstruction caused a lot of chaos and led to the disappearance or death of thousands of people across Magnus. The most notable was the Lord of Oisya, Hannan Marisa, the only son of Aeryn DeSteffen and her sole heir to the Duchy of The Stiriphese in Favont.
