Selene Orbital Station — S.O.S Settlement in Miand'Mésvéstell | World Anvil

Selene Orbital Station — S.O.S

Selene Orbital Station.

Current Year:
3886 PD.

Selene Orbital Station — colloquially known as S.O.S — is currently Mésvéstell's oldest and largest orbiting space station. It stretches up to 8 and a half kilometers across and its highest point reaches 6 kilometers. It has continually been expanded and built upon for several years, transforming its infrastructure into something closely resembling a labyrinth; even those who are familiar with its layout can sometimes get lost among its claustrophobic-inducing corridors.
Not too long ago, the station served as both a construction site and docking bay for space ships that either was on route for the moon base, or some other celestial body in the Sol System. More than a few considered it a central hub of space flight. Other than that, it was also where one-fourth of scientific research in space was done.
At the moment, S.O.S has been put on an indefinite quarantine until the Outbreak has been neutralized.

Demographics

Before the Outbreak, S.O.S had a population of 16 798 stationers, though it has enough space to accommodate around 19 000 stationers. Currently, with the arrival of the SBS Crew, the number of stationers went from 12 872 to 13 075.

Government

Before the Outbreak, the station was run by a board of executives, handpicked by the owner-company of Hizare Tech Enterprise.
After the Outbreak, leadership was divided between the factions. Each now has a high positioned member at the New Board that speaks for the faction.

Assets

  • Both Cargo Hangar H-2A and Cargo Hangar H-2B are fully stacked with precious ore.
  • Cargo Hangar H-5A is fully stacked with equipment and materials used to construct and repair space ships.
  • An extensive armory fully stacked with weapons, ammunition, and armor can be found underneath the Hizare DC Tower.
  • The S.S.C.S holds a handful of newly constructed singular pilot space ships, with additional material and equipment from Cargo Hangar H-5A.
  • Vault 1A — Code Named Sanctuary — is safely secured within S.O.S. Few stationers are aware of its presence and content.

    Defenses

  • S.O.S has a moderate O.D.S. Automatic high-precision plasma cannons, aided by a sophisticated identification system, protect the station from space-debris and medium-sized asteroids.
  • S.O.S has been equipped with a C.S.V.P. Three heavy particle plasma cannons are stationed on-top of each of the three Towers. Their main usage is against large asteroids or space-debris but will be quite destructive against hostile space ships.
  • S.O.S is covered in an Energy Shield which can withstand the smaller variant of space-debris and asteroids that O.D.S ignore or is unable to detect.
  • The S.O.S A.I. Designated Selene. It — though most stationers uses the gender-pronoun She — maintain the station's firewall and guards its cyber-banks. She also controls the defense-systems O.D.S and C.S.V.P unless authorized personnel is At Station.

    History

    Construction and completion

    3783 PD > 3795:
    12 years.
Construction of S.O.S began in the year of 3783 PD and was both carried out and founded by Hizare Tech Enterprise, with contract partners and co-founders: C.C, Signtech, and Riddlectronics, as well as Aurarts Enterprise.
The station finally opened up, and its employees set to work, in the year of 3795 PD, three months ahead of schedule. Over the next 89 years, it has continually been expanded and built upon.

The jewel of Hizare Tech Enterprise.

    3795 PD > 3884 PD:
    89 years.
It was seen as the jewel of space constructs in the first 30 years, and later, with the competition of M.O.D.S, an adored scratched jewel. During all this time, it has been the property of Hizare Tech Enterprise, and a testament to their financial and technological might.

    The outbreak.

    3884 PD > 3885 PD | 19 Anarte:
    1 year.
It was in the middle of the year 3884 PD that everything started to break down, as if Cthenth himself had taken a shuttle up to the station.

    Slow beginning.

    3884 PD | 1 Mrimon:
    2 months & 18 days.
It began with what was thought to be a simple hey-fever that affected around a few hundred stationers. The usual procedures were made and that seemed to be the end of it.
But it did not take long before those that had fallen ill became worse, and as if that wasn’t bad enough, even more were reported sick to the medical facility, despite the health security measures.

    Evasive and odd.

    3884 | Niante > 3885 | Marosam:
    4 Months.
After the first four months, the disease took its first victim, and after that more and more died through the following months, despite the furious work of both doctors and Peace Keepers in terms of treatment and quarantine zones.
Since the first who became sick worked on or near The Medlife Tower, it was put under mild quarantine but that would prove to be futile: Up until 3886 PD, around 22 % of the population had fallen ill to a previously unknown disease – nicknamed The Contamination - that had spread like a wildfire to all parts of the station.

    Quarantine blockade.

    3884 | 2 Yolra
This was one of the bigger turning points for the emergency situation, as the whole station was put on quarantine and no one was allowed to leave or enter it, as it was now considered a biological hazard. Military spaceships surrounded it in a blockade and put it on 24/7 surveillance. Those on board the ships could sometimes get audio broadcasts of people who desperately asked to be saved, or they heard the sound of battle or people who had broken down and accepted their fate.

    Descent into pandemonium.

    3885 | 24 Marosam
Because of all this, and since the stationers could not leave the station, it plunged down into a slow and steady descent into pandemonium. Bodies piled up far too quickly than what seemed natural, and in some areas on the station, those that had not died yet where too sick to do anything about their dead crewmembers, and the corridors soon became littered with corpses.
Small factions began to sprout up among the survivors, and a few small skirmishes happened between those that had food and water and those who did not. But it would become so much worse.

    A lost crew.

    3885 | 2 Velsog | 17:00 > 3885 | 2 Velsog | 23:00:
    6 Hours between.
At one point one of the military spaceships captains got enough of those broadcasts and gave the order to dock with the station. But only a few hours after docking, communications with the crew was lost.

    Harsher orders.

    3885 | 6 Velsog.
After the lost crew, the higher authorities proclaimed that any military spaceships — no, any ships — that went to dock with the station would be bombarded with ordnance and its crew flagged as traitors to M.C.S.

The true horror of the Contamination.

    3885 | 19 Anarte > 3887 | 8 Mrimon:
    2 years & 2 Months.
After around a month with even more dead and infected, the true horror of The Contamination was exposed: Infected corpses began to walk the station’s halls once more. It began in the most desolated parts of the station where corpses had been left were they died. The contamination is believed to have started off as a regular virus, and the stations few scientist believe that it evolved as much as it did thanks to the exposure to radiation of space and the fact that it had spread across thousands of different genepools over a relatively short amount of time.

    Abandoning station.

    3885 | 24 Anarte | 03:00 > 3885 | 26 Anarte | 22:00:
    1 Days & 22 Hours.
The Contamination Horde became the last straw for the stations only surviving executive, who decided to leave the station. But before she did that, she sealed most of the station’s exists and its more important gates, to hinder both the Horde and the stationers from freely walking the station. She also gave the station’s A.I a new set of directives, which made it hostile to all living lifeforms, in an attempt to make it and the robotic units it had control over, annihilate the Horde and the virus it bears. She then went to the station’s hangar, set up a few explosive devices and then took a spaceship and left the station.
When the spaceship was far away enough, range, she detonated the explosives and destroyed the hangar and the spaceships inside it. The last part had all been witnessed by at least three military grade, heavily armed cruisers and one Dreadnought. They knew what the executive had done, the fate she had given the stationers. And that pissed them off royally.
During all this time, the executive had been hunted by a group of stationers who wanted to stop her and get hold of her clearance level. One of them had sent out an emergency broadcast anyone who could hear, and many of the spaceships crews could – they just could not act on them. Over the broadcast, they could hear much of the hunt for the executive, as well as talk among the group and the sound of battle when it came into contact with the Horde and A.I controlled units. So when the executive in her ship left the station, a few of the blockade of military ships highlighted her craft with their targeting systems; they did not give her any warning whatsoever before they obliterated her ship.

    A determined suicide mission.

    3885 | 5 Mintesa | 05:00 > 3885 | 7 Mintesa | 16:00:
    2 Days & 11 Hours.
Thanks to the executive’s work, it became even harder to traverse the station, and something needed to be done about that. But without the clearance level, they had to go around it somehow.
A group of people, consisting of members from the Task Force, the Peace Keepers, the Maintenance Crew, the Slayers and the Immune Ones went to The Hizare D.C Tower to get hold of the C.C control center. Of the 16.st stationers that set off towards the Hizare D.C Tower, 9.st made it to the control center:
    • 4.st had been killed by monsters of the Contamination.
    • 1.st was executed out of fear of being infected and another one committed suicide for the same reason.
    • The 7th member was killed by the A.I security when the group attempted to hack the doors to the control center.
    • Having taken control of the C.C control center, the group accomplished what they had set out to do.

    Architecture

    • The station have very functional architecture, that embrace practicality and efficiency. This rule is, however, not followed everywhere and there are areas that are follow a more comfortable, to not say luxurious, path.

The exCaptian of the SBS Sangabi
Mason Sunstone was the man that ordered his ship to dock at the station, with the intention to help the stationers. That decision cost more then half of his crew and weighs heavily on his consciousness. That he could never have known that the area nearby the docking bay was infested with monsters from the Contamination Horde, is something he wont allow himself to see.   In shame, he became one of the most high-risk taking Slayers there was, and has at the moment distanced himself from his remaining crew, leaving leadership to be taken up by his last remaining lieutenant that survived the Horde.

The Captain of the SBS Sangabi
    • Still sees herself as - at most - a Commander.
Alice Farán is the one who reluctantly took the command position over Sangabi's remaining crew, after Commander Mason stepped down in shame.   More understanding then her exCaptian, she tries constantly to make him take back his position; screw the rules and traditions.   Between her tries, she does her best to make sure that those that survived the Horde stay alive.

De facto leader of the Slayers.
The mercenary Jennifer Haster act as the de facto leader of the Slayers and is deeply respected for her marksmanship and tactical abilities. In her help to command a force of nearly 1500 armed men and women, she has a few second-in-commands. Together, they come up with plans to exterminate as many of the Contamination Horde as possible.
