Archival Glimwing
General
Archival Glimwings — also known as Avikhre Glimwings — act not only as sources of illumination within the Avikhre, but also possible Archive Guardians. They can be found wherever in the Archivist's domain, idly flying about or resting: the latter usually on top of Avikhre Knights.
A source of illumination
Archival Glimwings gives off an impressive, blue pulsating glow that intensifies during high noon and is at their lowest around midnight, giving the Great Archive something similar to a day and night cycle.
Some Bosakere capture a few of them and keep them in lantern cages to use as a safe source of illumination in dark areas of the Great Archive. Others manage to capture the interest of a handful of Glimwings, who will usually rest on the Bosakere's shoulders or head.
Archive Guardians
Archival Glimwings is the only known Glimwing species that is capable of assembling into a colony of theirs into a semi-humanoid form: a weapon of razor-sharp crystalline stained glass that can slice flesh, stone and metal.
Incredibly hardy, they utilize impressive speeds and agility to take down their opponents. While in a battle, they may also utilize their pulsating illumination ability to blind their opponents.
Beyond this they can also splinter itself into at least two thinner and slightly smaller versions of themselves in order to attack an opponent from two sides; this, however, leaves it weakened and exposed to easier destruction. Of course, when that is at hand, it may explode in a last-ditch attempt to take the opponent down in order to protect Avikhre.
Screaming Glass
Whenever an Archival Glimwing's Guardian Protocal is enabled, the air around them gives off an continuing shriek that intensifies whenever they move their limbs about. This shrieking appears to have two main functions:
Offensive Function
Offensive capabilities that, due to the high frequency of their shreiks, can cause severe physical harm to an opponent and possibly even death. Most common damages caused by this, however, is bleeding and ringing ears.
Communication Function
Communication capabilities that allow them to catch the attention of other Archive Guardians to come and investigate. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the shrieking will mainly draw forth other Glimwings like moths to a flame.
Disturbing implications
It is not known if these two functions are intended or merely accidental side-effects of the shrieking. Some wonder if it not a happenstance effect caused by Archive Guardias moving their crystalline glass limbs, or if they themselves give it off due to an unfortunate cause, though the latter is not something many likes to dwell on.
