Arteaga

The Villa de Arteaga is located near the mountain range of the same name, in the southeastern region of the state of Zaragoza. It is a small and relatively quiet town, where the majority of the MezaVerse events take place.   Around Arteaga there are many communities, such as San Antonio de las Alazanas, Mesa de las Tablas or Jamé, to name a few.

Government

Since 2018, the municipal president is the PRI member Everardo Durán, brother of Chuy Durán, who is the patriarch of the Durán family and controls the municipality from the shadows.   Arteaga's seat of power is located in the municipal presidency, where all kinds of bureaucrats and officials work every day to ensure that everything runs like silk, and that the Durán family gets their corresponding cut.

Defences

The comandancia (police department) is located at the outskirts, near the highway.

Industry & Trade

An important source of economy is the sunday market on the Venustiano Carranza Alameda, as well as the many restaurants, stores, and handcrafting workshops.

Infrastructure

The most notable landmarks are the San Isidro Labrador church, the Venustiano Carranza Alameda, and the Santa Cruz (Holy cross).

Guilds and Factions

The most powerful faction is the Durán Family, which governs the city and owns a big amount of wealth and properties. A group of ancient wizards, the "Curanderos de Arteaga" (healers of Arteaga), are both respected and feared by the people.

History

Founded in the 16th century by the spaniards. In the 17th century, a wave of Irish immigrants settled in Arteaga. In the 19th century, the city was occupied by the French army.

Architecture

Mexican colonial architecture prevails in oldtown.

Geography

It's located in a valley, surrounded by numerous mountain ranges and forests. The city's water supply comes from the Black Eye Spring up in the mountains, and runs through a series of canals known as the "acequia de Arteaga".

Natural Resources

In the surrounding mountains there can be found expansive forests teeming with deer, bears and rabbits, as well as numerous wellsprings and brooks. There are also stone quarries in the mountains.
