Aquelarre Tree

This tree, known by the locals as "El árbol del Aquelarre" (Aquelarre Tree), has a peculiar carving that depicts a witch, with the inscription "EL AQUELARRE" underneath it. It is next to the cobbled street and the acequia. The date of creation of the carving is unknown. It was destroyed in 2019.

It was the scene of the epic confrontation between Sebastián Peña and a clan of witches led by Niju Suika.
In 2019, Abundio Pelayo Valdéz and the Healers of Arteaga destroyed the tree after defeating Suika and his coven in a battle.

History

According to legends told by historians and the archives of the Curanderos, the area around this old tree has been used as a gathering point by various witches' clans over the centuries, since the founding of Arteaga in the 16th century.
