Weapons of Sembar

The weapons of Sembar stand as unique when compared to the foreign northern shores, but to the locals, it is all they have known until the introduction of metallurgy.

Obsidian

First we should start off with the most common material historically, Obsidian, using knapping an immensely sharp yet fragile blade can be created. These weapons on account of being fragile are only made into weapons intended to penetrate a target. This comes in the form of daggers, javelins, spears and arrowheads.

Saenhuid

Obsidian weapons and tools have been used for centuries throughout Sembar as the abundance of obsidian compared to other materials has made the people develop a thriving community of obsidian craftsmen.   Using knapping the Saenhuid create cost effective arrowheads that are easily replaced, and extremely sharp. They use feathers from both coastal and mountain nesting birds for the fletching at the end. The shafts are made from certain reeds that are dried out in the sun. These reeds are only found against the coast or within marshes making only a handful of tribes every using archery.     They make use of a rather short javelin to add in the range their short blades weapons don’t provide.   They use the same knapping techniques that make up the arrowheads. For the shaft they tend to use bones, often carving them into a smoother shape for better accuracy. With certain species of reed found within the marshes being able to grow large enough for the stem to be used as a shaft, however this remains exclusive to the flood lands.   Just like the arrows there is little care in the preservation of these weapons with them often being replaced, although when possible the shafts are collected for the next javelin.     One of the few weapons the Saenhuid show care in decorating is the handles of their short blades.   While they incorporate details, this tends to be rather minor with a few carvings being done into the handle. The blade is expected to break, but the handle is to be reused by being attached to a new obsidian blade when possible.   The easy shattering and piercing potential with the obsidian weaponry have led to a rather aggressive form of duelling where the attackers charge their enemies directly and recklessly resulting in rather quick duels to be had.   The holsters tend to be made out of leather or handwoven fabric and are attached to the outfit using string or rope.

Donhuid

Obsidian weapons have been used for centuries as the abundance of obsidian compared to other materials has made the people develop a thriving community of obsidian craftsmen. Although in the contemporary era metallic weapons are viable, the culture still has its historical bias towards Obsidian.   The @donhpeople of the cities delicately carve and shape their blades to create clean and beautifully edged blades. These blades are used carefully to prevent them from being shattered, with shattering them before defeating an enemy being a shameful action.     The two most common weapons are the dagger and spear, with both being used among warriors and non-warriors, although spears are typically more often found amongst guards.   The dagger scabbards are curved greatly as a result of an almost extinct plant that the scabbard is carved from. This design has made its way into the metal scabbards.   Spaces for water and oils are often made in the excess space.     One of the few blades to retain the knapping roughness is Throwing Knives which blend Saenhuid and Donhuid styles. These are exclusively found amongst the warrior caste, as it is expected through their skill should the blade not break and that it will be collected after use. This reusability led to the handles being decorated, although typically simpler than the daggers.     A devious blade called Shard Darts are a creation of devious and dishonourable warriors. The intention behind this blade is for once it penetrates the skin the blade is snapped causing the blade to shatter causing long term wounds. It isn’t made to kill, something no honourable warrior would ever use.

Bludgeoning

On account of obsidian shortcomings in bludgeoning and Slashing capabilities, a different material has filled those roles. For bludgeoning it has been fulfilled with bone, stone, and some metals.   The typically both the Saenhuid and Donhuid decorate them thanks to their durability and longevity making them be preserved. The saenhuid carve patterns into them and dye the indents, while the Donhuid used to do the same, since the introduction of metallurgy they fill their carved patterns with metals, typically gold. However this new tradition is only common with the wealthy and those wishing to appear that way, With most being content dying theirs.   The longevity of this weapon is on account of its specialised use in combat i tended to be used to either shatter an opponent's obsidian blade or to give someone a concussion.

Metal

With the discovery of metallurgy the neighbouring province of has begun making a great many metal blades. Unlike foreign blades these rarely are made with iron or steel, rather it are made with bronze and are often found oxidised of how little care is shown towards the blades themselves.   These are only common amongst Donhuid, typically within the military of the Masharng Pulyabak itself, however a few have found their way into Yadharqouk with its ability to shatter obsidian Weapons, slash and pierce making it a good middle ground weapon. Additionally it allows someone to drastically mess with the balance of the previously established duelling practises giving an edge in combat. The Sembar Navy commissioned plenty of curved blades for dealing with the foliage of the Slande Archipelago when settling their plantations. Some of these navy blades have made their way into the hands of the common man, although this is not typical. Metal blades have started to overtake the obsidian weapons within communities that hold little regard towards towards their own heritage.   The only time you are to see a Saenhuid with such weapon is if it was a gift or if it is the object that houses the tribal leaders spirit they have captured. In which case the vessel is required to be gold.
