Shard Caster

The Meridian "Shard Caster" operates as a handheld ranged weapon. Similar in function to a crossbow but far simpler to use, a Shard Caster uses Meridite crystals as a power source to form small projectiles of magic and launch them using a taut string between two limbs. Shard Casters come in many varying shapes and sizes, often having their own nicknames. Shard Caster strings are formed using paired Archonite crystals.
Some examples include:

• Far-Caster: A larger, longer-ranged, two-handed shard caster.
• Shatter-Caster: Medium-sized short-range weapon. It expends an entire crystal in a powerful blast.
• Rapid-Caster: A Small, rapidly firing, but inaccurate handheld weapon. The crystal String re-knocks itself.
• Chunk Lobber: Large artillery emplacements.
