Crystal Magic

Crystal Magic, commonly referred to as Enchanting, is the method that mages use to store magical energy. This energy is then usually formed in to a spell or effect of some kind. From simple, passive lights to Aedracraft flying through the sky, enchantment is the backbone of Meridian society.

There are five types of crystals used in enchanting, each with its own properties, making the choice of what crystal to use for an enchantment paramount to its success. Crystals each have a retention, which represents the efficiency with which stored magic is able to be converted into an effect. Furthermore, enchantments are split between Static and Dynamic enchantments.

Archonite , from the realm of order, is extremely good at retaining static enchantments, such as enhancing the function of an item or creating a specific effect, though it refuses to retain dynamic enchantments.

Example Static Enchantments:
  • Light
  • Enhancement
  • Stabilization
  • Battery
  • Reflect
  • Trigger
  • Absorb

Temerite , from the realm of chaos, is extremely good at retaining dynamic enchantments, such as projecting energy or controlling objects, though it refuses to retain static enchantments.

Example Dynamic Enchantments:
  • Elemental Weapon
  • Haste
  • Charge
  • Control
  • Growth
  • Blast
  • Gate

Meridite , from Meridia herself, is moderately good for retaining enchantments of any kind. Simpler enchantments are best for this material due to its lower retention.

Mysticite Is abundant throughout the Meridian System, typically poor at enchantment retention, Mysticite holds raw magic better than other types of crystal, making for a fantastic battery for other enchanted crystals.
Loryalite Is exceptional in all uses of crystal magic but exceedingly rare.
