Sour Cherry
Beyond the edges of the Blackwater Hollow, members of the Remnant have discovered a bush that produces green fruit in the dim, half-light of the forest. Very few things grow in Blackwater Hollow that need sunlight.
The fruit is called a Sour Cherry. While the fruit appears green, the fruit is soft and has small seeds inside. The Remnant named the fruit after the flavor after the first bite which starts with a strong cherry flavor that ends in a sour bite.
The sour cherry is not as small as a cherry. It is the size of a small cherry tomato. The juice from the sour cherry fruit is harvested by the Remnant.
The bush grows low to the ground, but climbs trees that break through the tree canopy. When it reaches a tree with sunlight, it climbs up the trunk and supports the tree. The fruit grows faster on the vines that are higher to the sunlight.
Strangely enough, the sour cherry did not grow before the Binding of Sestus. The fallout from the battle: wild magic and chemicals from the munitions impacted Blackwater Hollow and the environment around it.
Over the next 7 months, Blackwater Hollow began to change. Following are the impacts:
-Tar deposits were released near Blackwater Hollow.
-Wild Magic began spouting around the edges of the Hollow.
-The trees’ bark began to grow dark moss, so that the trunks had long strands of dark moss hanging off of the surface.
-The sour cherry bushes began to grow vines that run along the forest floor and up the sides of the trees’ hairy trunks.
If the fruits are not harvested or eaten, they fall to the forest floor and they are eaten by squirrels or other animals. Once they eat the seeds, they shat them out and spread the plant throughout the forest.
