Kōsaihama
There are terrible, terrible things in the dark. The Kōsai know that.
Hidden deep beneath the earth, the Kōsai Empire stretches out for miles in all directions, originating from the capital (and first) city of Saishotoshi.
The people of Kōsaihama are grim, hardened people who have learned to live without sunlight and with little oxygen. They tend to have smaller, wirey bodies that require less oxygen, consequentially, and are known to be of a "waste not, want not" mindset. An overworked pack horse that has pulled its last load is now a source of meat, leather, and bones for construction of tools.
Death is a part of life for the Kōsai, and they are not the type to mourn openly for those they have lost. It's a quiet, stoic type of grief that hangs over the entire population like a cloud. But they cannot allow themselves much time to ponder such introspections - the next attack from the hostile under dark will come soon, and it will not wait for poetry to be written or sonnets sung.
