Pansartåg

General Description

The pansartåg is the first model of an armored train ever used in the world of Meravia. It consists of four wagons and one locomotive, which is located at the front. Due to the enclosed nature of the mines, it is currently operated, as well as its constricted movement due to its reliance on tracks, it is primarily used as a supply of support vehicle. However, rare cases where a model was forced to engage enemy forces proved highly effective and showed that it is among the strongest weapon systems in the known world.   The latest development of it has seen the attempt to use it as a mobile command center, as well as a troop transport to hard-fought battles, where both the soldiers, as well as its weapon systems could be used to turn the tide of battle.

Propulsion

The first wagon holds the pansartågs propulsion system. It functions with a basic combustion engine, which is strengthened with several runes and magical conductors.   Without the magical components, the range which the train can travel is limited. At best, it can go on for ten kilometers on a straight track. At worst, it won't even start. The magical components can power the train for forty kilometers without the engine, making them the most important part of the propulsion system.   To maintain the system properly a crew of four is needed. Three of those fill the engine with coal or some other burning material, the last watches over the magical components and tests them for proper functionality. While the latter does not have to be a mage, it is far safer for them to be, as they can reforge the runes if necessary. One of the other three should also be the chief engineer, who can do similar controls on the engine.

Weapons & Armament

The pansartåg is a supply and support vehicle and is equipped to fit its role. The second and last wagon is equipped with weapons and soldiers to defend the train from any incoming enemy.   Each wagon holds two ballistae. They are manned by three soldiers each and can fire six times per minute. Other than the regular ammunition, it can also fire poisonous and explosive ammunition. The first to combat large predators or tamed beasts, the latter to deal with large groups of enemies or to block an advance by threatening their use. Explosive ammunition is dangerous for user and target, as it can explode prematurely. The two wagons carry four hundred bolts of each type, which is enough supply to operate independently for a week before having to restock.   To protect the ballistae in close combat situations and to support in during combat situations, the two wagons carry ten soldiers each. These are equipped with crossbows, as well as spear and shield. They can fire ten bolts per minute, greatly increasing the trains defensive capabilities against large crowds.

Armor and defense

Each wagon is armored with a centimeter of solid steel, making it impregnable to most attacks with conventional weapons. The exceptions to this that are found in the same caves in which the pansartåg operates are the acid of some bugs, the straight hit of a giants weapon or the use of an explosive by other dwarfs.   The massive weight of its defenses makes it hard for the pansartåg to maneuver properly. While it is already locked to its tracks, the immense weight makes stopping very slow and requires a long track to pull off without harming anything inside.
