Gathering / Conference
Vecna asassinates the original circle and uses that to ascend to godhood, becoming the god of the dead we know today.
On Elesias 4, 1111 AD, the first circle of archmages met in the city of Thaneas in the norhtern part of Eisilfel, being called together to discuss recent events by the Archmage of Necromancy. After much debate over a variety of topics including the funding of several projects, the Archmage of Necromancy chose to speak about a recent issue with, what would have at the time been the human embodiment of Vecna. While discussing this final topic, Vecna stormed the building, eleminating anything and everything that got in his way. A great battle ensued and all of the world's finest magic users fought to the death. Unfortunately for the circle, as far as we know it anyway, all the original archmages perished in this battle and Vecna used the power he gained from killing each of them one-by-one to ascend him into godhood. This same battle was the one that separated Vecna's hand and eye from his body, magical artifacts still housed by the House of the Arcane today. This ultimately ended up marking the first time a mortal had found a way to promote themselves to a higher level of being. It also essentially marked the period of the Age of Discovery where, for the most part anyway, things started to unravel as magic became more and more of a problem for the gods to combat.
