The Man of Glass
Fi, Mo and Mira first came across Gaunter in their homeland where they undertook a task to hunt down a man and bring him to justice. After learning that there was more to this tale than they realised, they refused to kill the man, but Gaunter appeared and took his life himself. Rewarding Mo with a golden fish, Mira with information about the man and Fi refusing to take a reward, they moved on from Gaunter. Weeks later, while camping in the woods, they were attacked by a fierce ogre. After felling the best a strange toxin burst from it's body rendering them unconscious. When they awoke, they were in a prison cell aboard a ship alongside two strangers, M and Zan.
The 5 managed to escape their cells, but cornered in the room by seemingly endless guards bearing a red sun on a golden crest, they stood little chance of escape, especially when a sorceress began hurling lightning at them. Just as the killing blow was about to strike the party, time around them seemed to stop, and Gaunter appeared in the cell behind them, offering them an escape route in exchange for their service. Seeing no other option, the group agreed, but Fi cashed in her reward to protect Mo from Gaunter's servitude. Time resumed, Gaunter told them to meet him in Rudderton and vanished along with the lightning bolt that was about to hit them. Suddenly the ship rocked and the guards rushed to the deck following screams. A gargantuan sea monster that seemed to control the surrounding storm had boarded the ship and was laying waste to the guards. As the ship slowly sank, the group had no escape.
The five awoke on the beach of an unfamiliar town, Port Rainell, all bar Mo bearing a strange scar upon their faces. After journeying to a tavern in the docks they came across Smokey, a Tabaxi that also bore this mark. Deciding to aid each other in resolving their debts, the gang realise they need gold and take on a quest for Lord Von Everec with a hefty reward. After slaying a cyclops in the woods, Von Everec rewards them and they use the money to buy horses and a wagon and make their way to Rudderton.
Gaunter awaits them and gives Smokey a deadline to complete his task; retrieving the Staff of Seasons from a nearby temple. After delving into the depths of the Temple of Seasons, the party are successful and present the Staff to Gaunter. Gaunter tasks them with finding and fulfilling three tasks for a man named Olgierd in Port Rainell. After some searching they discover this to be Lord Von Everec.
Having already completed one task for him, he charges them with retrieving him his old house. Discovering that he is referring to an auction house that his family rightfully own, they stage a break in using unwitting help from Cailin Harvadi and retrieve the deed for Olgierd, who then tasks them with retrieving a purple rose from his beloved in Smurn.
The party slowly made their way to Smurn and officially dub themselves the Band of Misfits after picking up a new member, Derek. They speak to an old blind man about Olgierd and discover that the Lord is also in Gaunter's debt. They make their way to Olgierds old home and after dispatching a powerful undead known as The Caretaker, they make their way through the house and retrieve a purple rose from Iris Von Everec's corpse.
On the return journey, Gaunter tells them to meet him at the peak of the Glaciated Mountain. The Misfits make the climb to the summit where Gaunter awaits alongside Olgierd and seven strangers. Beginning a ritual, Gaunter uses the Staff of Seasons to change the phase of the moon and sacrifices Olgierds immortal soul to begin the ritual. Revealing to the party that they and the 7 strangers are all representatives of the 13 Demon Lords, he locks himself away in the summoning circle as he releases the Demon Lords one by one. The Misfits clash with the 7, killing three of them before the rest retreat with Gaunter, ritual completed.
As the Misfits seek to right their wrongs, they wonder why Gaunter hasn't shown up yet, only to dicsover that Mo's golden fish was protecting them from his sight. With the fish gone, the Coterie have given the party rings that will shield them from Gaunters gaze once more, so long as they keep them on. But Gaunter is angry, and hunting them down. And after Mo resurrected, he caught a glimpse of their location. After being dispatched to an old research facility to (unsuccessfully) recover a lost book, they find themselves on a floor that suppresses magic. Unbeknownst to them, their rings stop working and Gaunter finds them. He hunts the party down, killing Kith and Amber, their two coterie associates, as well as Saff and Fi. Having barely escaped and now down to just M, Mo, Brendan, Enward and the newly added Aes, the party are reeling with grief and find themselves reinvigorated to find a way to stop Gaunter.
