Causis

The lush isles of Causis have a reputation of dubious morals, freedom, and stolid pride. Its known for its pirates, its dancing, and a tricksters nature. The country itself is split between its mortal inhabitants, and the Faen Court. The county rules the mortals only, and its many islands fall under the control of ancestral families, whom answer to the High King or Queen. Causite politics can be unusually turbulent and violent, with the heads of government are elected, rather than inherited. Shows of valor, power, cleverness and diplomacy are given to prove ability, and nobles are typically involved with their lesser electorate.

History

Causis wasn't a country in its on right until the War of Summer and Winter. Before, the isles were a collection of clans, typically in control of their own islands, though the larger islands had multiple clans. The isles were rife with raids and piracy, battling over richer land, better waters, or larger islands. in Awakening:7, the clans started to come in contact with the Faen for the first time, and after a few conflicts, started to get overrun. It was then the larger clans called the others together, to fight the threat to them all, and set grievances aside. The clans elected a High King from among their ranks. The Reign of High King Ivor Mor was short lived. He was killed in battle during the height of the War of Summer and Winter in Awakening:21, after which the election of High Kings gets muddied. In Awakening:54, the clans appeal to the newly formed Ghennan nation, and thier ruler, Vaernas of the Valley, for her knowledge of magic, and assistance. The assistance comes, and the War of Summer and Winter officially ends in Awakening:57, with the Faen pushed back to one isle, albeit a large one, and the isles entering Ghennan control.   Causis did not return to independence officially until Silence:3, after Red-Eye's Rebellion, and the King's Accord between Faen and mortal.

Wind, storm and rain, brave it all for the name.
