The Halls of Civilization--Culture

The Halls of Civilization

Alignment Suggestions: The underground nation of the Dwarves is a highly organized, not to say regimented, place. Many rules need to be followed for safety in the underground world, and those who ignore them needlessly are far more likely to be lost to the dark, so Lawful alignments are very common.

Languages Known: In addition to Common, your native language is Modern Dwarven. If your species has a Private language you can choose to be fluent in it (although the use of such foreign tongues is strongly frowned on in the Halls). Otherwise you are fluent in one of Dwarf-Talk (the local Halfling variant), Ancient Dwarven, Celestial, Draconic, or Primordial.

Dwarven Combat Training: You are proficient with the battleaxe, handaxe, throwing hammer, and warhammer. You have also been trained to use light armor, medium armor, and shields.

Tool Proficiencies: You are proficient with one of Brewer's Supplies, Mason's Tools, or Smith's Tools.

Phalanx: In the course of your combat training, you learned to form a shield wall or phalanx. When you stand within 5' of one or more allies who also have this ability, and all of you are wielding shields, you each gain +1 to your AC so long as none of you are incapacitated or prone.
Suggested Heritages: The most common Traditions passed on in the Halls of Civilization are those of Earth, Fire, Wind, or the Hidden. Ancestral Heritages are exceptionally rare, but the Re-Forged Heritage is more common here than in any other part of the world, as the magical technology used for it was developed by the Dwarves. It's closely related to the processes that created the Workers.
