City Dwellers--Culture
City Dwellers
Alignment Suggestions: Those who grow up rubbing shoulders with many and varied folk in the environs of a big city learn both tolerance and caution, as widely varying appearances hide widely varying motivations, and frequently fail to line up. Lawful alignments are somewhat more common among city dwellers, but not overwhelmingly so.
Languages Known: In addition to speaking Common, your native language is the National language of the region you grew up in. If you belong to a species with a Private language, you may choose to be fluent in this tongue as well. Otherwise, you know the version of the Halfling language most appropriate to your region. Also choose any one non-Private, non-secret language to be proficient with.
Skill Proficiencies: You are proficient in the Persuasion skill.
Other Proficiencies: You are proficient with one musical instrument, set of Artisan's Tools, or gaming set of your choice.
Broad and Varied Tastes: The environs of the city offer more opportunity to learn about far off places than any other experience short of travel itself. You have a chance to know the answer to a question about the languages, foods, or customs of any culture or nation in the world, even if you've never been there yourself. When such a question first comes up, roll one d20. On a roll of 15-19, you have a vague but accurate idea of the answer. On a 20 you happen to know the answer very precisely (Feel free to invent a story about how you learned this fact). On a 1, you are absolutely certain of a completely incorrect answer to the question. Make it up, and role-play it!
Suggested Heritages:
Just about any heritage can find a niche in the city. The Traditions of Disguise, the Arcane, the Mind, and the Trickster are slightly more popular than others, while the likelihood of Re-Forged prosthetics being available depends on how far the city is away from the Dwarven realms.
