Driving out of the Drow

The elves turn upon their dark brothers.

Despite their peaceful intentions, Gielsolim was terrified and repulsed by the drow and condemned them as daemons. He started a war to exterminate all of his dark skinned kin. The Drow were caught by surprised and many were killed while they tried to settle things peacefully. One of the early deaths was Elbain. Elbain had a young daughter, Alisana, who took over leadership of the Drow from him. The Drow became enraged at the Elves for the slaughter of their leader. They also found that the more enraged they became the more power the Nightmare rock gave them. But even with this added power, the Drow were simply too few in number and eventually were driven underground.
