Dreaming Eyes

Commonly associate with use of Elfroot by non-elves, the medical condition known as Dreaming Eyes is sometimes sought out by reckless adventurers for the positive benefits it provides.

Causes

The common cause of Dreaming eyes is a massive exposure the the energies of the plane of Arcadia. Some sources of this energy are the use of Elfroot, living near planar portals to Arcadia, and accepting food and drink from fae creatures. There is also rumor that sexual contact with certain species of fae can cause the condition as well.

Symptoms

The first symptoms of Dreaming eyes is a slight color change of the afflicted's eyes. The exact change varies but all always be a color that is unnatural for the species in question, such as purple, yellow, pink or orange in humans.
Along with this color change, the afflicted's eyes become more sensitive to magical and planar energies, allowing the inflicted to detect magical auras and planar portals without the aid of spells.
If the exposure to the energies of Arcadia continue, the color change deepens and the inflicted begin seeing movement and creatures in the border Ethereal plane as well. As this happens, things in the prime material plane begin to take on a more hazy appearance to the afflicted. This is the last stage where the progression can be halted without the aid of magic.
If the afflicted does not limit their exposure to the energies of Arcadia, the eye color change begins to overtake the entire eyeball. As this happens, the afflicted loses the ability to see items in the prime material plane and are only able to see items that are either in the Border Ethereal, the near realm of Arcadia or things and people that are magically concealed.

Treatment

In the first two stages, the best treatment for Dreaming Eyes is to remove the source of contamination from the afflicted. This can be very difficult for those who gained their exposure due to Elfroot abuse, since the drug is highly addictive to non-elves. This will halt the progression of the disease but not reverse the effects.
To remove the effects of the first two stages, the afflicted must be treated with a poultice over their eyes made with a combination of honey, grave lilies and powdered iron. Continuous use of the poultice for twenty-four hours will reduce the disease to its previous stage.
Once Dreaming Eyes has reached it final stage, only magical intervention can help. The afflicted must receive a lesser Restoration spell and a Dispel magic cast against a 5th level spell effect. If the dispel magic is not successful, the disease cannot be removed by anything less than divine intervention or the Wish Spell.
