Julia Tyrone

With dark red hair and eyes like drying blood, Captain Tyrone is a terror. Standing at 5’6’’ and clad in men’s clothing, she commands an entire ship of cursed women. After selling her soul in exchange for a ship and her life, Tyrone began crafting a brutal legacy, both by the worm-eaten ship she commands, and the part where she’s missing an arm, which has been replaced by chains she can control.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Dead and still walking. Where her left arm used to be is now a metal spike attaching a mass of chains and rope.

Personal history

Early life

Nana, will you tell me about the ocean again?
Tyrone was born to a wealthy merchant family who owned over thirty ships delivering spices and fabric across the Continent and into Aquimore.
The first time she as a child went with her father to the harbor she fell in love with the sea, and began trying to learn as much as possible about it. She was raised by a nanny who indulged her interest, telling her stories of the depths of the ocean and what lived down there.
Her parents were pleased with her interest, as that meant she would be better suited to run their fleets once they passed away. She also took up duelling, often arriving to lessons as a small child in her thick long dresses and a wide smile.

Betrothal to an admiral

She was betrothed early on to Pascal de'Moine, a nobleman's son from the same area. The two never met until she was 17, and shared a tense relationship afterward.
De'Moine didn't approve of her desire to head her father's fleet, instead pushing her towards a noblewoman's life of socials and running a home rather than a ship. She mentioned this to her parents, who agreed that he was out of line, but they couldn't do anything to call off the arrangement without losing status and money. She agreed to proceed with the arrangement, fully intending on ignoring de'Moine entirely.

The wreck

I'll have you know that my father has a whole fleet of ships, so you'd better get me home.
At 22 she set sail for the Brosha Islands to be married to de'Moine, accompanying a division of sailors sent to help occupy the islands. During this, one of the many massive storms in the sea between the Continent and the islands picked up, sinking the fleet. Tyrone was one of the few survivors, despite being sent and then locked below deck during the storm.
She fought off swarms of eels that emerged to feed on the wreckage, and was picked up by the The Hydra's Curse after several days. There she demanded they bring her home to the Continent, never mentioning her fiancé at all. They were unable to as they'd have been captured and executed immediately after making port, so they headed for a large port town in Brosha instead.

Death

"What are the terms of this deal?"
"One thousand souls."
"Done."
After several weeks onboard, the Curse was attacked by the Roving Unicorn, de'Moine's ship. Intent on finding his fiancé, he was enraged when he found her on deck in the same clothes as the pirates around her, which had been given as spares for her. He assumed that she'd run off with a gang of pirates rather than marry him, since she'd shown no actual interest in him and rather focused on sailing.
Declaring her a pirate and a traitor to the Empire, he attacked her. In the struggle, she was caught in the loose ropes of a cannon and, as a storm grew up around the two ships, was dragged overboard with the cannon as it was flung from the side. Her arm was severed from her body and she drowned after several minutes of trying to return to the surface. She ultimately failed.
Her existence didn't end there, even if her life did. Qhil, the embodiment of the oceans and one of the Old Gods, raised her from the dead on the bargain that Tyrone would bring her 1,000 souls. She walked from the ocean onto Occult Island, clothes torn and bloody, the stump of her arm with a spike driven into it where cables and chains formed a new limb.

Captaining a ship

We could use a mer. They're good allies to have. Welcome aboard, Ember.
Qhil raised a crew of other women who had died unjustly, and a ship for them to crew. Not raised, but still climbing from the sea was Ember Sunstone who Tyrone immediately took on as navigator.
From there they began working to take the souls they needed. After recognizing the extent of the Empire's cruelty to the islands, she changed her strategy to attacking their ships across the ocean in an attempt to push them back.

History

When Julia was thrown overboard, she expected to die. She did not expect the sea she loved so much to extend a hand in kind, offering a new, different life. She accepted. She gave up her arm, and gained a second life.
