Occult Island

If you want to go there, sir, you'd need amulets and silver swords, not your medals and steel.--Hector Fjord

The island of many names

Multiple attempts to settle the group of islands have been made, all ending in the abandonment and disappearance of the people involved. In this area of the sea, currents and winds change and die randomly, and there is no animal life to be found.
Multiple shipwrecks lie under the surface of the sea here, and supposedly the whispers and cries of lost spirits can be heard at night. In short, it is a cursed area, and no sane captain uses it as a shortcut. The pirates and fugitives that call the region home though, often take the gamble of fair sailing to save time.

Geography

Area is comprised of five islands of varying heights, each covered in thick jungle. It is in the shape somewhat of a wheel, one island in the middle with four surrounding it. Along the beaches are caves, which seem to connect in places to one another. Here and there chambers break off, forming rooms tall enough to stand in. Inside several of these chambers are altars and vaults, many dedicated apparently to Qhil.

Fauna & Flora

The animals living here are found nowhere else in the currently understood world. Not because they are themselves unique, but because they are commonly recognised up until various mutations are observed. Jaguars and other cats with white fur and pink eyes, golden possums and oddly discoloured lizards. The rare colourations aren't the only oddities for these things. Birds often have extra, useless eyes. Other animals have extra limbs. The fish are rotten when pulled from the sea, yet they still swim.

Of the plants, the most iconic are the orchids that grow. Nearly five times the size of normal orchids, they bloom in strange colours and at odd times, large enough to swallow up the birds that come to feed. The pitcher plants found elsewhere also grow large here, able to swallow small birds and voles rather than just mice and frogs. The trees are massive, some 20 feet wide, growing high enough they should touch the clouds. The underbrush is too thick to cut easily, and seems to grow back overnight, hiding the paths cut with fresh branches.
