Siphoning Stones

This naturally occurring mineral is a deep, matte black free of any lustre. It runs in veins beneath the surface that are rarely exposed. Only in areas of great geographic relief is siphoning stone generally accessible. Of medium hardness, the stone requires iron tools to break up and remove from the ground. It has a strange, irregular cleavage that resists shaping or carving.   This strange mineral is highly valued on Maverot for its ability to absorb light when exposed to it and release it when in darkness. This makes the stone invaluable to travelers without a Solarcrat patron in particular. Prior to the Starvation, it was prized for its abilities to negate magical effects. Now, few possess the means to refine the stone into a reliable antimagic tool. Siphoning Stone nevertheless possesses natural magic absorbing qualities and will devour any magic that comes into direct contact with the surface of the stone. It releases any energy taken this way as light when in darkness.   Few deposits of Siphoning Stone are available to eastern Maverot, with most existing perilously close to the howling winds of The Clouded Canyon . The Trade Guild guards these deposits jealously, restricting information as to their location even among their own ranks and responding with hostility to any who happen to discover the whereabouts of any dig site.
