Duke Marik Feldren, younger brother to the late Obertus Feldren, is the Duke of the Southern Coast Colonies and ruler of Seaton. A young hothead, Duke Feldren is eager to surpass his war-hero brother's legend.

Personal history
Marik Feldren was born in 177 IA, only a few years after his older brother, Obertus Feldren. His mother fell to nightmares induced by Granny Nightshade when he was 10, which some have said affected the boy greatly. His father, Sir Feldren, was always a distant man off on business, and as such Marik came to idolize his brother Obertus. When war with the Sea Princes came, Sir Feldren fell in the early stages of the conflict - prompting Obertus to join the military in his father's place. Marik, meanwhile, managed the estate back home in Seaton. This frustrated Marik, who - as an eager young man - desperately wanted glory. When Obertus returned a war hero, and then was named Duke of the colonies, Marik's desperation only grew. Obertus died due to complications regarding a curse cast upon him during the war a year into his reign, and Marik was then crowned Duke of the Southern Coast Colonies. After nearly fifteen years as Duke, Marik has been frustated by the peacetime, and wishes to carve a legacy equal to or surpassing his brother's.
Sexuality
Due to Marik's lack of a wife - or marriage in general - rumors swirl that he is perhaps gay, or even asexual. While homosexuality within the empire is permitted, it is seen as better for noblemen such as Marik Feldren to sire children to inherit his titles. In truth, Marik is straight (or at the very least bisexual or pansexual) and merely has struggled to find a partner due to "personal difficulties arising from his station", according to his statements on the matter.

Contacts & Relations
As Duke of the Southern Coast Colonies and a member of the Keoish nobility, Marik Feldren has many ties to the Imperial Military - especially within his domain - as well as prominent fishermen and even some privateers, many of whom he personally issued the letters of marque for. Duke Feldren is subservient to the Viscount of the Cobalt Sea, of course, and maintains a degree of personal command over Eliander Fireborn and Kiara Shadowbreaker via Colonel Andrik Runerage.
Family Ties
The Feldren family has long been in power in Seaton. While their ascension to Duke of the Southern Coast Colonies was recent - Obertus Feldren, Marik's late elder brother, being appointed only after the war with the Sea Princes - they were a prominent merchant and military family before and during the war. As Obertus's younger brother, Marik has a lot to live up to. Much of the rest of his family has long since passed on, and Marik is currently without a wife or heir - a fact he is all too aware of.
