Deruv

The United Provincial Republics of the Vynijks are a confederacy of republics that compose the Vynijks Peninsula on the northern coast of Hisberia. The most populous of these republics, as well as the seat of the capital city, is Deruv, which often serves as a metonym for the entire nation, much to the chagrin of the residents of the other provinces. Built on what was once swampland, Deruv was granted its independence after the Third Great Neoparian War. Nowadays, Deruv is famed for its technological innovations and extremely influential merchants. Many royal individuals have money in Deruvian banks, and the production of airships is almost entirely monopolised by Deruvian engineers. Despite their extreme wealth, the Republics still have a fairly low population, and therefore rely on mercenary armies and the protection of Hisberia for defence.

Structure

There are four Republics that compose the nation - Deruv, Judrecht, Limburg, and Tops. Each province has a slightly different governmental structure, but each one submits a number of representatives to the two Houses of Government, the Senate and the Council of Ministers. The ruling monarch, referred to as the Princess or Prince of the Vynijks, acts as Permanent Chair of the Senate.

Demography and Population

Deruv is mostly inhabited by halflings and gnomes, as well as humans as dwarves, but as a cosmopolitan nation with dozens of ports, it is home to all manner of races.
