The Divine Leopold Lishk

The God Emperor of Neoparia, once Leopold Lisk, was one of the 9 heroes who ended the Age of the Moon in 999 AM. Blessed by Glade, he helped drive the Archons back to the Moon.
After the party of heroes split up, Leopold returned to his native Neoparia with an aim to unite the many disparate tribes that were constantly at war with each other. In only a few short years, with the help of his closest lieutenant Halag Ostiert, he had conquered the entire nation. His authority came from his claims of divinity; in war his armies seemed invincible, and rumours spread that the new emperor was an avatar of the god of war. Leopold took this and extended it, spreading word that he not only was a god, but in fact the only god; worship of the old gods was heresy and punishable by death.
At this time, Halag was growing more and more popular. His armies loved him, and the people respected him. Concerned by his growing influence, and aware that Halag was aware of his ruse, Leopold ordered that his former friend be erased from the world. He was killed, and all trace of his existence was removed. The only evidence that he had ever lived remained only in the hidden Gladus Tower, in a tapestry that told the story of Leopold's rise to power.
The God Emperor's reign continued for centuries. In time, it was forgotten that he was ever a mortal goblin; he became an eternal foundation of Neoparia. He became more reserved and retreated into his throne room, only occasionally deigning to issue commands to the Council that ruled the country.
In Canour of 2999, the God Emperor was killed. Hood, the shadowy leader of the Black Hand resistance movement, burst into his throne room. After an intense battle that saw both of them transformed, Hood emerged victorious as the new paragon of Glade, and new God Emperor.

Personal history

As a young goblin, Leopold was driven by fury to drive back the demonic scourge. He was blessed by Glade and single handedly defeated hordes of demons. His whip struck down his foes, and eventually, with the other 8 Biblical Heroes, ushered in the Age of the Sun. Once the Heroes disbanded, Leopold returned to the warring tribes of what is now Neoparia. Within a few years, and with the aid of his lieutenant, he had established a united empire. However, he soon became paranoid of the popularity of his lieutenant, who had legions of loyal followers. Declaring him a traitor, Leopold had him executed and all traces of his existence wiped clean, barring the tapestries in Gladus Tower to remember his old friend. Leopold then declared himself a divine being, and sealed himself away for the next few centuries, never truly awakening from his slumber, even when marched for official ceremonies.
