Session Fourteen: Slimes in the Swamps

General Summary

- 16 of Han -

Yarrow was the first to wake from the group, save for Aldous who never slept in the first place. Yarrow, Aiden, and Petunia all brought food to the rest of the people in the house. The group gatehred themselves and prepared to head out to the Mokkden Caverns to the South to find KENNA BRIGHTSPARK. As they left Petunia gripped Yarrow's hand and cast [blocklink :399351] and smiled.

The group head south until the ground started to get wild and the ground soft. Alabaster led the way through the wilds while Yarrow cast Water Walk. Between the two of them the group made their way across the swamps with no troubles. They avoided what looked like quicksand, bogs, and areas full of poisonous plants.

Quickly striding across the land the party traversed the Mokkden Swamps and ended up in the foothills. After a brief investigation they came across signs of bipedal travel. They followed the tracks to a cavern with a tent set up at the mouth of it. Looking through the tent the only things there were a bag of samples from different plants and a sleeping bag. The group followed the tracks into the cave hot on the trail.

The party entered the cavern. Following the winding paths they saw that the walls and floor of the tunnels were smoothed and water was trickling at the bottom of the tunnels. They followed the left walls of the paths eventually ending in an open area of the cavern with a dark pool. Aldous and Alabaster went into the room first, Aldous moving to poke his staff into the dark pool and Alabaster to stop him.

Once in the room a bubbling came from up above. Yarrow alerted the party and the group split as a large green slime pulled itself out of a crack up at the ceiling of the cavern and dropped down. The group quickly sprung to action. Alabaster used his new ring and cast Shatter on the ooze sending acidic goop around the cavern. Cyrus backed him up in the tunnel. Meanwhile Aldous investigated the pool and as he did two large black oozes rose from the water.

Alabaster smashed his Violin into the green slime getting grappled by the beast. Aldous rushed in and struck the beast with his staff which he had cast Shillelagh on. Cyrus whipped the creature from afar and between their efforts the slime began to lose form and fell into a puddle on the floor which sizzled against the stone.

Alabaster gathered himself and cast Shatter from his ring again. Cyrus once again danced around the goop striking the oozes in the pool. The oozes, having taken enough damage, burst and covered those that lacked quick reflexes in a sticky adhesive slim.

While Cyrus and Alabaster helped Yarrow remove the sticky slime that covered him Aldous looked up to the crack in the ceiling. With a snap he cast Gaseous Form. Floating up he moved through the crack and looked down into a tunnel behind the wall that it looks like the slime traveled through. In the space before the crack were some coins and a medallion from the Avium. The metal looked like it had been sitting in acid for a few hours. Aldous moved around the tunnel in his gaseous form. To the north was a nest of sorts were the tunnel opened up and seemed to be where the green ooze was sleeping. Moving to the East Aldous found a drop down that led to the tunnels underneath.

Aldous returned to the group and told them about the tunnel for the slimes above and the signs of Kenna in the tunnel. The group made their way North, navigating away from tunnels with water and following the smoother tunnels in hopes of finding Kenna.

They eventually found their way to a massive opening in the tunnel. This room was massive compared to the tunnels and had some fresh air to it. In the back of the tunnel was a hole with light shining down, probably from the outside. Below that opening was a steep slope of rocks that led to a deep pool of water.

Alabaster, Cyrus, and Aldous made their way in, drawn by the light to the back of the cavern. Yarrow, learning from earlier, looked up and floating above him was a naked dusk corvum. She looked to be badly injured, many of her feathers and some of her flesh seemed torn away. She seemed to be unconscious and around her neck was a glowing necklace with a ruby set in it. Yarrow saw her floating there, clearly injured, and raised his hands to cast Cure Wounds. The corvum opened her eyes and began to scream. Her scream was muffled by something and small bubbles came from her beak. Yarrow backed into the tunnel and as he did a large invisible cube fell and blockaded the room.

Alabaster, Aldous, and Cyrus turned to fight and saw the half dead corvum floating and the scenery behind her obscured slightly as if by an invisible ooze. Yarrow aimed away from the corvum and cast Moonbeam in the area beyond her. As he did a huge wall of ooze appeared and turned bright orange. Alabaster turned and cast Shatter on the slime causing it to turn white and start to advance upon them. It was the width of the cavern and moved at them slowly engulfing things in it's path. Cyrus cast Melf's Minute Meteors which caused it to turn crimson red. Aldous ran up and , trying to line up with where he thought the corvum might be, pushed his staff into the slime.

Yarrow moved in and moved his moonbeam turning the slime bright orange again. Alabaster took a swing with his Violin's edge and the slime split into two. Cyrus continued to use Melf's Minute Meteors on one of them causing it to turn crimson again. Aldous pulled his staff from the crimson one and struck it with his staff. The ooze fell into a crimson puddle beneath his feet and the corvum woman fell to the ground, the necklace at her breast still glowing.

Yarrow rushed over to heal her and Alabaster cast Shatter again on the remaining ooze. The ooze sloughed into a nopaque white puddle. The group quickly got the corvum up. She was Kenna Brightspark and she was coming to the Caverns to study the slimes and their adaptive abilities in hopes of finding something to help with the fire elementals in the scorched grove. She had been researching things after receiving advice and support from Odwald Ebonhart including the necklace that kept her alive. She asked the party to collect samples for her and the group grabbed her and moved to the opening above to exit the caverns.

Traversing the swamps was again effortless between Alabaster and Yarrow. The party made good time going across the water and hitting dry lands. As night began to fall they began to approach   The main thing here is that the magistrate of Winnowing Reach believes that a" href="/w/mardlo-arias-nuactna/a/winnowing-reach-article">Winnowing Reach. As they started to see the town a rock outcropping caught Yarrow's eye. He saw movement as a small group of bandits tried not to be seen.

Yarrow snuck up and cast Tidal Wave on the bandits knocking many to the ground. One tried to run and Cyrus cast Witch Bolt on them, killing them. Alabaster cast Shatter on the group of bandits killing two and smashing some of the rocks. The last one began to run and Yarrow cast Tidal Wave again, this time doing so only to knock the Mapach down and out.

They captured the last one and brought her back. The cart the bandits had were full of corpses, some fresh and some decayed. They threw the other bandit bodies in with the corpses and woke up the Mapach. The Mapach was Saba Lastname, Aiden's older sister. She was part of the main bandits and talked about her brother defecting with Krall Tinyfeet. Saba was working for Captain Merridan who was helping the new bandit leader build an army of undead to attack the capitol of Humblewood and overthrow the government. The group 'persuaded' her to change her ways and gave her a chance to go see her brother again.

Going back into town the group met with Captain Thornspur, a large Gallus with a friendly attitude. Yarrow explained about the bandits and asked the Captain to take the cart and to warn the magistrate that bandits were afoot. The Gallus thanked Yarrow and took the cart and the party went off to Mint Fermata's house for the night, save for Aldous.

Aldous took Kenna back to the researcher house. She thanked him and asked him if he would come inside. She told him that Professor Clara Oaces was staying on the second floor with the professors and that she was doing research on the scorched grove. He said no, pulled out a dried snake tongue covered in honey, and cast Suggestion. He told her not to tell anyone that he was here and she nodded in agreement and went inside the building.
