The Grand Oak
A massive tree used by various religious folks!
The Grand Oak is a massive tree that towers unnaturally above the forest which it rests in. While never directly measured, conservative estimates place the Grand Oak at meaning 100+ foot tall. It is located about 2 days travel north of Lindenwin, just before hitting the Wyrlin Mountain chain.
In older days it was rumored to be a religious site, but with it being so far off the beaten path it is rare to find anyone actively seek out the location. Despite most rumors leading back to Maranesi strange unreadable runes can be found near by that are closer to those left by Worshiper's of Alandra.
Purpose / Function
In the modern age the Grand Oak has no practical purpose. It is however rumored that the tree is a religious site for those who worship Maranesi however this can not be confirmed as the mere mention of Maranesi is a death sentence.
Alterations
The Grand oak for the most part is simply that, a grand oak tree. On the backside,facing the mountain chain of Wyrlin is a single small spot that has been blackened from the number hands touching it throughout the years. This spot is smooth and cold to the touch. There is also the outline of what appears to be a crudely drawn star.
Additionally there are a number of geode near or around the base of the tree. They are scattered randomly with a number of them still not cracked open. It is unclear as to if these stones are naturally occurring or if there were brought in long ago by the occult worshipers.
It was discovered that the Grand Oak could be used to open a portal into the Astafrid but only under a full moon and only by performing the opening ritual. The process requires the user to form a mirror night star using the blood of a dragon. After doing so and touching the center of the tree a small rift will open and grand the caster of the ritual entrance into Astafrid
